Bandwidth prices estimations

I can't seem to find estimates on the web I tried searching google. The question is if I have a forum site with 25,000 registered AND ACTIVE members, about how much would my monthly bandwidth payments be? Just a regular forum like this one except it is music related. Anyone have experience with forums and have an idea or estimate of how much bandwidth would cost per month? Of course a lot of factors come into play here and it is impossible to get an exact amount, i'm just looking for estimates based on experience or knowledge.

How many images are there on this site?

Is there image galleries, or downloadable files or is it mostly text?

Surely getting the Stats for the previous months (such as awstats or webalizer) should help you decide such?

I doubt that bandwidth would be that much of an issue. I think the big issue would be server resources. With 25,000 active members, plus guests, that is going to require one mother of a server setup.

Bandwidth can be totally different prices as well, all depends where you go for hosting.

why do I have to have a server? Why cant I just go through a regular hosting company with the premium plan at a few hundred a month and setup a regular forum the same way I would if i went to bravenet.com, signed up for a forum that they put on the site, open the site, and let the visitors sign-up? why would I need hardware to run a forum site just because I have a large amount of visitors? I don't get it I'm not very experienced with it though so could you explain. I don't want to have to purchase or run hardware..

thats a big statement..I mean there are huge hosting companys that offer plans for large businesses where you pay up to $1000..$2000..$3000 per month. I would think some of them would be capable of handing hundreds of thousands of visitors given the name "Large Business Hosting".

servers and hardware make everything to complicated. boo.

Who?

Never seen any. Most people with serious traffic like that go with managed dedicated servers from places like RackSpace.

I think it's best to get a normal hosting account to start out then if you get the traffic you're expecting, you can always move the site.

No such thing as unlimited.... unmetered.

The only thing I know that's possibly unlimited is the universe... or something or other...

$140 a month isn't going to do crap for you with 25,000 active members.

This forum has nowhere near that, and we are having to move the site to a $600 per month server.

So you are saying they are lying in attemp to get my money...then when I actually pay, they cap the bandwidth and say "I know we advertise unlimited and unmetered bandwidth and have done so to 400,000 people all over the country..but we changed are mind because you are getting lots of traffic, sorry"

??

Um, they aren't lying so much as not being entirely forthcoming.

See my plan: http://www.v7inc.com/v3.php

You might not use all the bandwidth, but if you moved a site onto the server that used that much resources, we'd definitely shut you down.

It's like buying a bus ticket, then asking them to move the Empire State Building on the bus.
