Over a month I think it's possible, albeit with a lot of luck needed.

It's hard to provide 100% uptime, I think that's impossible.

Providing 100% uptime over an extended period of time is impossible. Even the DNS servers don't have 100% uptime.
For what its worth, I don't really think its worth paying to much attention to the advertised uptime figures that hosts give. They have to much discretion about how/when it is measured. Its also sorta an inaccurate way to judge things. A planned downtime from 2AM to 3AM is much better than an unplanned downtime from 3PM to 4PM

I don't watch for downtime either. I don't think you can have 100% uptime. As I would expect a web host to secure it's servers an kernal and have to reboot it. So I do expect some downtime.
I have however had great service from http://reliablehostingservices.net I host my web hosting forum with them.
Been with them going on 6 months now. Haven't noticed any downtime with them.

In my opinion you never get 100% uptime since from time to time you have to update the server, fix the bugs, get errors and most of all sometimes your enemy companies DDoS your hosting to destroy its uptime. So no it is very difficult to get 100% uptime

As per my personal experience, no shared server hosting provider provide you 100% uptime. If you really want 100% uptime than refer clustered server because cluster is basically configured to resolve the downtime problem

You could easily achieve 100% uptime on a VPS by bouncing it around the various host machines if you need to upgrade one or take one down for maintenance.

I am not agree with your suggestion, 100% uptime on VPS "not possible" , only cluster can provide you the 100% uptime because its configured for uptime purpose only.....VPS is depend on the main node and if your main node having ddos attack then you will also face the down time problem....

Practically there are hosts who provide 100% uptime on a monthly basis - as calculated by third party tools. Doing it every month may not be easy, but I don't see a good reason for being obsessed with such numbers. 99.9% is god enough and 99.99 is super good!

I think its only possible when you are with cloud servers or dedicated servers. If you know how to handle your servers, how to stop spammers from flooding your servers, how to secure your servers then you can guarantee 100% up time for your own websites. But if you are running server business then its pretty tough as you might have many clients. That's the reason VPS and Cloud providers like Amazon, Rackspace or atlantic.net don't offer 100% up time guaranteed though they are very expert in handling their servers.

The ones offering 99.99% up time guarantee, do usually give you the 100% up time. It is more for the legality issues they say 99.99%. They don't want to get sued, just in case.

Don't forget 99% uptime allows for almost 3 days of downtime a year. It's a very misleading concept and varies from hosting company to hosting company.
Where it's used in Service Level Agreements (effectively the hosting company's guarantee to you) you'll find maintenance excluded from the calculation along with a whole host of other things, including matters beyond their control.
So my view is that it's actually meaningless. Judge a hosting company on its performance and customer service, not by the promises it makes upfront.

100% uptime is very difficult to reach in normal shared hosting environment.

A US hosting company last week launched a 100% uptime service.
But as with the 99.9% deals are they really worth the paper they're written on?
The list of exclusions from "downtime" is so wide as to make any calculation pretty meaningless!

Depends on how you measure it. If you want 100% uptime for one day and you go that whole day without it, then it is truly 100%. It is harder to maintain that though through a month.

No, 100% uptime is not possible.
It is because if Host install any OS updates or do maintenance on server then it requires reboot hence server can not provide 100% uptime.

Maybe they can offer 100% uptime to a server if you do not use it.
A server is a machine after all, time to time a machine can colapse, must be upgrad it, and you cant offer 100% uptime, not even if you want it. I think for 1-2 month, they can offer 100% but that depends on what you do with there servers...
