I have to ask Fruit & Veg, why Ron Atkinson?
The massive cost on bandwith, but how do they earn an income from the website? I've only visited a few times, but can't see anything thats going to generate them a profit.

There's Google ads top and bottom - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-rcjaBWvx0 plus they have a userbase they probably email and advertise to. Plus healthy funding goes someway to putting bread on the table - http://www.youtube.com/t/pr_060405_funding
I doubt they make a profit though....but neither does (or did until fairly recently) Amazon.
Also, from this page - http://www.youtube.com/t/fact_sheet

Business Model
YouTube is pursuing advertising as its business model, and is exploring a range of possibilities including promotions, sponsorships, contextual-based advertising, traditional banner advertising, etc. But more than anything else, we're committed to providing the best consumer experience to watch, upload, and share videos. When building a community, it is critical to get the model right.

There's none. It's a price war between hosting providers. One started with unlimited traffic and the others followed..

In Japan bandwidth is cheap. I was looking into server colocation in Tokyo and they say that Tokyo is so well connected that bandwidth is essentially free.

Lol ofcourse there is small print. Do you think if youtube signed up for an unlimited bandwidth account and used 200 terabytes a day it would be included in there package? Unlimited packages always have small print its just marketing to bring in more customers.

Usually when there's unlimited bandwidth the disc space is limited. Like, 500MB or even 100MB. With limits like that on the disc space, it's not likely that they could do a huge amount of bandwidth even if they wanted to. And there are modules that govern the number of concurrent connections to a server, so the site would time out before it ever reached anything near 200 terabytes a day.
