How important is a control panel?

I have a dedicated server that I'm willing to divy up at a reasonable price. (PM me if you want the information) but in the process of securing the server my web-cp isn't 100% funtional so I can only offer hosting, ftp, shell no gui to clients. How important is a gui interface to you? I've had both kinds of hosts so I'm just trying to guage how important it is.

depends...i hate control panels...all gui's are easy to assess but i'm so not into web based software or anything web based for that matter...i'm more into programs myself.

you'll get a mixed review i'm sure

I think the control panel is pretty important. The one thing I hate about DreamHost is their control panel - I prefer cpanel.

Same here. A control panel, to me, is vital with any hosting package. A client likes some sort of control and not all of us know that SSH stuff. I want all my hosting features available to me in one neat location - cpanel.

CPanel is my wife.

If a hosting company doesn't offer CPanel then I won't be there.

v7 Hosting has cpanel, so I'm set

A control panel allows lots of control like adding/removing email accounts, creating FTP accounts, changing password, managing MySQL databases and lots more. So how can one prefer a hosting account without control panel?

What everybody else said.
Unless you can find an uber unix geek who needs hosting you need a cpanel with a GUI interface. And even if you do find a person like that soon he'll (probably) run out of cash and you'll be looking for a new client

If you are going to resell, control panel is a MUST. Either CPanel or Plesk.
SSH is not safe, I wont recommend giving SSH access to clients, unless you know them pretty well.

I like cPanel, but a ton of customers seem to like Plesk for some reason...

Maybe if Plesk can get an instant activation script like WHM Autopilot, I'll get a server for that!
