How to find website hosting details?

Is there is any tool to find the hosting details of a particular website. We use whois to find the domain registration details, but how to find out the web hosting details? Is there is any tool to find the hosting details for a particular website? Please Help!

Hosting Details?

Such as what? Site statistics? Platform?

Does Whois provide info on who the host is??? If so, just google that information.

I'm confused as to why you would wan't to know who the host of a particular website is. Most don't care who hosts a specific site. Those who do, usually have other intentions other than purchasing a directory and domain. What are your intentions if you don't mind me asking?

If you are looking for a good host, just ask and I'm sure that most will lead you to a good quality host.

Or are your intentions a bit deeper???

I am not asking this question in bad intention. Knowing hosting details helps in search engine optimization. There is lot of tool able to find domain registration details for a website, why there is no tool able to find the hosting details of a website?

Hi,
It's just the matter of experience in webhosts. Here are some points which one can consider:
1. Check out how many sites are hosted on the server. In this if the servers are clustered on the same ip then 1000s of websites can be hosted on the same ip. This thing is very very bad in terms of SEO. Host your site where less amount of sites are hosted on the server.
2. Never ever use very very cheap hosts even if the company is branded. Many companies just use their brands but their hosting quality will be zero. for eg. Powweb.com or Globat.com or DreamHost.com they provides like 20 gb hosting and huge amount of bandwidth. VERY FEW PEOPLE KNOWS THAT THEY HAVE RESTRICTIONS IN THEIR RESOURCES. LIKE AFTER THIS AMOUT OF HITS OR THIS AMOUNT OF DATA TRANSFER OR THIS AMOUNT OF DISK SPACE FILLING THE ACCOUNT WILL BE SUSPENDED.
3. Talk to the Server admin and have 1 day trial of their host if possible. Then check out the software versions on the server like php mysql phpmyadmin etc. if they are perfectly updated then that means admin have some knowledge of security.
4. From WHM check out it's server load. How much is the load on the server.
5. IMP: Check out the hardware of the server. I will prefer Dual Opteron servers instead of XEON. As Dual Opteron servers can handle the load very smartly. whereas XEON servers Crashes APACHE when the load is high but opteron servers will not crash apache if the server load is high.

Check out the uptime of the server and if it was rebooted then ask a strong reason for the reboot.

These are some of the points which can help you in finding a good host.

I know a host very very good for these type of things. I bought a dedicated server from those people and they provide fully managed servers. 30 min. Support Response 24/7. Let me know if u need any help.

Ramki, I am in a similar position.
How do I locate the webmaster info on a site? I have searched every page but cannot find a signature or company name anywhere? I even checked the Source Code but still nothing? Thanks!

If you can't find a link which shows their uptime statistics, I would suggest you to send a mail. That will answer you both questions. You can see what is their response time and nature of the support and also they will be provide you their uptime statistics.

Netcraft tools will provide some info about the server, OS, host name(from Ip adress) and so on..
