I am using Godaddy Economy Plan For one of my niche sites and I brought One Year package for ₹750 ($12). Don't buy cheap packages from non-reputed companies.

I prefer to know what type of site the thread creator will be using so the host that I recommend would be able to give that person the best performance for the budget available.

I suggest all new website owners not to worry about web hosting just buy a simple web hosting plan and take backup regularly. You can upgrade or change your hosting plan anytime if you have proper backup of your site.

I think that old companies can provide you with the price you can call affordable. I mean such old players like Hostwinds. Recommended option also is not to use EIG based brands. I have to say that hostgator is used to be the one - but now their support is not that good.
Also cheap hosting should not be your keyword if you are looking for good host.

Almost all shared hostings are affordable. It all depends on your definition of affordable.
Most companies now offer discount coupons that makes their hosting attractive in terms of price.

Howerver you will have to do your research very well on what you want such as
- Disk Space
- Bandwidth
- Server Location
- Prices
- Support

This blog post should shed some light on this.

Before discussing how web servers work, it is first necessary to understand what a server is and how it affects the way your website or blog works. Fundamentally, a web server passes the information and data needed for you to run your website or blog onto your terminal, whether that is a PC, a Mac or a portable device such as a cell phone or tablet.

What is a Server?

Letís begin by stating that this is not a technical post explaining how the Hypertext Transfer Protocol works with regard to HTTP requests and responses, nor about the technicalities of Java or C++ sockets. It is intended to explain in understandable terms what a server is, its importance and what part it plays in making your website or blog visible on the screen. For the vast majority, their server equates with their web hosting service.

Fundamentally, a server provides a service. In internet terms there is more than one type of server. It can be a computer, a hard disk or even a

Cant agree more on this!! but then before suggesting, Need more details on what do you plan to host ? cos there is no single host who is an expert at everything.

Hello Delta

Apart from Godaddy and iPage. I will suggest you to check out hosting plans of Go4hosting and Hostingraja. They are really very cheap and providing very good configuration and bandwidth for new users.

Thanks
