Hosting General Questions
What hosting companies do you recommend for hosting multiple websites?
I'm sick of paying for individual hosting at places like Godaddy and am looking for sincere recommendations.
In order to host elsewhere, do you need to transfer the domains to the host?
Does anyone recommend HostGator?
THanks

Try hosting a website yourself with Abyss Web Server X1 its free and you install it on your desktop which is connected to high speed internet. If you like it you can purchase Abyss Web Server X2 which allows you to host multiple sites. I am using X1 and with a fancy redirect javascript can host two virtual sites.
http://haidavision.no-ip.info/ which needs alot of work to catch up with
http://crescentbeachhouse.no-ip.info/
find Abyss at www.aprelium.com. Very very easy to install and use.

I suggest you go with reseller package. As far as I know these companies provide reseller packages for multiple sites:
www.ivhosting.com
www.ahosting.biz
www.cirtexhosting.com
At the moment I going to start with ahosting. And my first impressions are quite good.

You do not have to transfer your domain to the host, all you have to do is update the nameservers (provided by your new host) to point to the new server.

I would certainly not recommend this for many many reasons. Lack of reliability being #1.

Reseller accounts tend to cost a bit more than Multi-Domain accounts. If you do not intend to resell actual hosting just multi-domain hosting will do just fine for you.

Hostgator is one of the best. But I guess even godaddy allows multiple websites on a single account. Check it out before you move.

I just signed up with ixwebhosting last month. I purchased the business plus plan which allows 8 domains and each domain has a unique ip address.

Hello. I must to say that there aren't any unlimmited basically anywhere, just within reasonable limits. You have to remember that. It is very impotant.

Resellerzoom - part of hostingzoom. They have a package where you can host 50 domains for $4.95 per month. I've got 5 websites hosted on mine already and have never had a problem with them. Tons of space left too. I can't imagine you can get much cheaper than that.

Hi, seem like you are a heavy user. go for unlimited domain hosting plan like below: (below are the basic plan from various hosting company)
1) ipowerweb - Free domain, and host 6 domains. Domain at wholesale price $6.50. Pro plan with unlimited bandwidth etc.
2) hostmonster - Free domain name forever. Host unlimited domains.
3) hostgator - Unlimited domain hosting
also get [SEL FPROMOTION REMOVED], if you are new customer.

No. You can just log into the domain control panel and change the nameservers. The nameservers will be something like ns1.something.com and ns2.something.com.

I've got a site at HostGator. I've had it there for several months and never had a problem and my host monitoring shows that it's up virtually 100% of the time. As I've never had a problem, I can't say much about their service. I know that on the phpLD link directory forums, a lot of people use Hostgator and that's where I initially got the recommendation.

I have maintained websites with Hostgator as well over the years and can say honestly that they have had their share of small glitches, but for the overall experience they were great. Most hosts have hiccups now and then due to equipment failure. There is simply no way around this. Some just seem to have more then others as they tend to bandaid their problems instead of stitching them up and fixing the real issues with the equipment. So you will not be bad off with Hostgator. I would consider going with an unlimited domain plan with them as well or whomever you decide to choose as your host.
Good Luck!

I think that Hostgator is a great company for small projects without scripts.

I used to, not now. IMO, they are good, for sites with scripting too
I also used to like a small host called hostingmatters. Good support, don't oversell.
Obviously they dont offer the same amount of space and bandwidth.

Honestly many hosts are good and the whole space and bandwidth offer is nothing more than a marketing ploy that works. Consider that the average site uses less then 100MB of space and needs less then 1 to 5 GB of transfer a month at max. Some sites are simply hobby sites that never really get a following nor much traffic. So many servers may look oversold, but in fact their resources are barely touched by these small hobby sites that many people put up.
All hosts do have their share of issues no matter what host it is. Some hosts though should obviously not be in the business as they do provide poor service and unreliable networks. However, if you consider giants such as Hostgator: for every unsatisfied customer they probably have 10 satisfied ones that you never hear from. This does not mean you should not check for what others think, but keep this in mind when selecting a host. I would also check the hosting forums alot to see about smaller hosts and test their pings, toll free service if they offer it, email support and online chat if offered to see what kind of responses you get and the amount of time it takes for you to receive an answer. This can tell you alot about how you will be dealt with if you choose them as a host.
Good Luck!
