Domain Parking / Changing Hosts?

Hello,

I've only bought a couple domains in my life, and I've only ever bought domain+hosting packages before.

Well now I have a domain name that I want, but I don't know where I will want to host it. I want to snag up the domain name while it's still not taken.

Are there registrars that will let me buy or park a domain name (free or cheaply) with the option of not actually using the domain with their hosting (or perhaps even transferring it elsewhere to use in concordance with another company's hosting)?

Thanks!

You may use severhostplus.com. Their shared hosting is very cheap and I think they'll meet your needs.

First of all, I will advice to keep domain account and hosting separate. The reason is, if you are not happy with hosting, it will be a pain to move or break the contract period. Some hosts will try to arm twist you using their hold on the domain. One of my client had her site down for two weeks, due to some smart techniques from bravenet.

It is perfectly normal to have a different domain registrar and host. Your hosts can NEVER force you to transfer the domain regitrar, you only need to update the NS record, to point to any host.

Note that the domain name ownership is the most important thing about owning a site. Do note take a risk. It is better to have all your domain name under one roof for easy management.

Godaddy and Namecheap are both good for domain registration. For hosting, you may look at somehting like hostgator.
