You may try ahosting.biz. Their service is not expensive. I think you'd like to buy a dedi, wouldn't you?

Haven't tried GoDaddy for that. I use iPowerWeb and I like their system. As low as $7.95 per month when you buy it for a year.

I would try hostgator or dot5hosting.
I would stay away from ixwebhosting, bluehost, starlogic, lunarpages.
But remember that forums can eat up bandwidth real quick. If your expecting over 2,500 active members, you may want to look into a dedi server. At least start planning for it.

I understand ixWebHosting, which has a terrible reputation for customer service. But why the others?
Also, DreamHost offers a ton of bandwidth and somewhat fewer restrictions on excessive use of resources. They had some problems last summer, which they seem to have overcome. I have had them for a little over 6 weeks, with really good performance. No, they don't use the Cpanel. They have their own proprietary control panel that, actually, is really easy to use and quite flexible.
As to the issue of active members: It's really how many are active at the same time that counts; technically it's concurrent connections. So there's where you may be forced to consider a dedicated option.

remember to find for host that allow easy upgrade to semi-dedi or dedicated server in future. migration of database/forum is hard. having them in same hosting company, would safe u in future.
for sure, get a high bandwidth hosting. cpanel. mysql. etc. consider few hosting. keep looking. All the best

Gene Steinberg-
I have had problems with ixwebhosting, bluehost, and starlogic. Mostly tech problems ixwebhosting and bluehost. Ranging from network downtime to just crappy boxes. With starlogic it was customer service. As far as lunarpages I have not used their services, but have heard horror stories from people who have.
Also I suggested dedi because 2,500 ACTIVE members, making daily posts, will eat up resources. Most startups don't have that many active members, but is something to consider at this time. That way when your user levels spike your not unplugged or forking out bucks. Better to plan ahead then to be dead.

I agree with you, assuming lots of those folks are active at any one time.
We expect to have to move to dedicated at some point in the future. But right now, we don't have to. DreamHost has a nice dedicated box, where they manage and maintain it for you. That would suit for companies who don't have experienced IT or Web gurus at hand, because the day-to-day stuff is handled by the very same control panel used for the shared services.
Peace,
Gene

cheap/budget hosting is not recommended for forum site. my previous experience with godaddy + script like wordpress, nightmare. **godaddy dont have cpanel.
for ur need of cpanel, fantastico, and forums, and easy setup, i highly recommend hostgator hosting.

Completely. Don't be swayed by attractive women on their site. Or the cheap prices. Service may be decent in most cases, but they nickel and dime you to death with extra prices for the stuff that you need for your site. And if you run into a problem, forget about it. The support staff is generally clueless when it comes to database slowdowns, etc.
I use DreamHost and have had great technical support from them, and very good performance in every respect. They had some "growing pains" last summer, but seem to have overcome pretty much everything in good fashion.
Peace,
Gene
