Can the name server and domain be hosted separately?

Can the name servers and the domain be hosted separately? For example, I have name servers at ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. The domain mydomain.com is hosted on the above name servers. Is it possible to host the domain mydomain.com on different name servers (say ns1.somedomain.com, and ns2.somedomain.com)? And still use the name servers (ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com) as usual? Thanks.

in domain transfer case, in the domain cp, we just change the NS to the new ns IP. ns1.somedomain.com
the old one is not in used anymore.

see this as where ur address, once u move to new address, the old one is not accessible, and cant get to ur domain.

It worked. All I had to do is change the name servers for the domain mydomain.com. I understand that ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com are directly referenced by root name servers, and can still be used for other hosted domains.
