Responsive support willing to spend as much time as needed on fixing your issue. Very few automated responses, personal involvement. Ticket system+live chat/phone. Readiness to upgrade my site to a bigger account when needed.

Service, quality, speed (dont want them to take a week to set up an extra domain, or extra space), domain on own name.

When I find a company that I truly like, reality is that I tend to tell everyone I know, and will likely write articles about it. Although I would recommend a good company either way, it is nice to earn enough from the affiliate program to cover hosting fees.

I would not recommend a company that I did not like, or don't use myself no matter how good the affiliate program is.

Honesty (when issues arise on the server I do want to know about them and how they are resolved, I can be patient if the support are trying to fix them, but I have to be informed).

Over the years as a host we have learned that stable servers, stable network, and support response times are all very important. Mostly though with all of our clients the key word is honesty. Be honest no matter how good or bad it is sometimes and clients will stay and keep coming back for more accounts and services.
