HELP!! Server Change Issues

I know im new here, but I am in serious need for a solution to my problem.

Where do i start?!

I have a reseller package with HostGator.com , and I had one of my personal sites on it. The site was growing too fast, and taking up too much of my reseller package, so i bought another normal hosting package from hostgator. They did a complete site copy onto the new server (same account name for site, just on a different one of their servers)

Old: http://74.52.131.146/~midnight/
New: http://74.53.28.146/~midnight/

I did this swap over 7 days ago. It was successful, everything worked, did my DNS swap and i thought that was it.

Now for the confusing part.
when i type in my domain (www.midnightclub.ie) it shows up perfect, as it should, as it does with 75% of my members

BUT

For the other 25%, its showing up as the old server. I have been onto my domain supplier, and they said all is fine at their end, they are seeing the site as they should, have been onto hostgator, and it works for them, they cant understand what it can be.

Not only this, but people who can get on, might still get the old servers at times. People who cant get on, can get on from different computers in different houses (hope that makes sense)

I was about to change the site back to my reseller package and scrap the new hosting, but said i would seek advice from other webmasters first.

Has anybody ever experienced this before? How is it solved? What can i do????

Thanks
AndrewGSR

pinging midnightclub.ie
reports it on ip# 74.53.28.146 for me from here.

If you changed the all this 7 days ago either the zone files have not been updated for the clients in question (unlikely I think) or they need to clear the dns cache on their local computer.

I think it it flushdns but can't recall exatcly how they do it at the moment. Clearing all the temp files might do the trick.

You might suggest they ping the domain and see what is reported.
start>run>cmd then type in "ping midnightclub.ie" with out the ""

This definitely looks like a case of an old DNS cache as Scriptman has indicated. There is a particular ISP in my town that only updates their DNS cache on Sundays. Totally stupid as it means that all of their customers don't see any sites that have been moved that week until Monday morning, but that's how they do it.

I'm getting the new .28 here in Canada.

I see on your old site that you have people using OpenDNS. I assume this means that you have isolated this to an ISP DNS issue and that OpenDNS is showing the correct site.

Unless you can convince this particular ISP that their DNS cache is old and needs updating, I don't think there's much you can do but wait.

Sad, but true.

Presumably, you're able to control the DNS records of the old nameservers for your midnightclub.ie domain?

If so, you can implement a partial "fix" by just changing the IPs etc. in that zone so that it points to the correct server that are (for some reason) still referring to the old nameservers.

If the nameservers for your domain haven't changed (just the DNS information) then it either means that the nameservers aren't all serving the same information (have you checked this?), or otherwise it could only be due to local DNS cache - at ISP or on a local computer.

If it is due to cache, these will all expire in due course (already should have done) and the "problem" will sort itself out. If it's due to some other issue such as the nameservers not containing the same data, then there's a more serious problem which caused it in the first place, and obviously the solution to your particular issue here is just to make them both match (with the correct info ).

That is not the same as flushing the dns entries from their local computer.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true

As someone else pointed out it may be an ISP issue. Here in the states 24-48 hours is the normal cache time for DNS.

Here is a quick test. Have one of the clients use a proxy site to try and reach your site. If it is ISP then the proxy will take them to the right site.

Andrew 74.53.28.146 shows it is one of your NameSevers - ns529.hostgator.com. Is this the correct config for your NS and site domain?

I'm sitting in Dublin and can hit your site fine and pinging it brings back 74.53.28.146. Running a DNS check on some of the bigger ISP's and Hosts bring back the correct settings.

I cant see what Eircom have listed for you but they 'could' be the problem as I have seen it before with them.
