Hosting management

I'm trying to set up my server so that I can host website from it for other people, I was wondering what a decent control panel would be and any other software I would need to manage and have it up and running.

Thanks in advance!

if own server, and colo at data centre.. the startup cost for that will be very costly.

you can look for reseller plan, all software included, and usualy at the price range of $25/mth ... or a dedicated server fully managed at $100+-

My best advice would be to get a starter server at serverbeach or some other equivalent unmanaged host/datacenter.

It sounds like you might be wanting to do this from a home connection and the issue with that is going to be your upload speeds. Most decent control panels are going to be fairly cost IMO to license at a single server personal level aswell.

If even a small dedicated box at serverbeach is to much for your budget then as charlesgan suggested maybe a small reseller plan would be a better fit.

I suggest the cpanel control panel. Webmin is a free control panel but its not as friendly to use imo as Cpanel.

Dont go out for own server unless otherwise you are so confident of managing your server on own.
Look for cPanel contains all the needed softwares.

Cpanel is the best control panel as of now.Its better to go for managed server rather than managing yourself.

yup......i wud also recommend you to go in for a managed server....... apart from going into the tedious details, you would also have to manage the security features on your server......since you are going to configure and manage it, it will be your responsibility alone........

anyways, cPanel is my preferred cp...
