Hosting problems
Hi guys,
I just started my website three months ago,
hosted it at Godaddy, I pay around 20$ per month
and the service is terrible, at least once a day my website is down.
I thought Godaddy are considered fairly good!
I'm thinking weather to complain, and try to get a better service from them,
or just relocate my website to another hoster...
ideas anyone?
Thank you,
Al M.

many good hosts out there. Do you have any preferred control panel? Location? Which web programming language are you using on your website? How about the database?

I think you may find a lot of nice webhosting companies nowadays. What are your requirements and budget?

The consensus (as per my observation) appears to be that they're fine to register a domain with, but don't get hosting from them...
If your problems are regarding service quality, I would suggest it's unlikely that complaining will get you anything beyond some kind of financial compensation (e.g. free/reduced price period etc.) as I don't know of any hosting provider that doesn't offer the best service they're capable of.
For $20/month you can get decent hosting from any number of providers, but as previous posters have said you will need to give us more information about your specific requirements to get appropriate advice on where to consider next.
Probably a good starting point would be an overview of your current package - i.e. space, data transfer ("bandwidth"), control panel software, scripting, number of domains etc.

I use godaddy for registration with no issue at all but I have heard awful things from the hosting side of their operation. If your on a month by month basis then I would as others have suggested look at how much space and bandwith you will need. Take what your using now and double it and it will still likely be much lower than what most of the cheap plans are from most hosts.
I wouldnt be supprised if you find hosting for $5 and it ends up meeting your needs.

Thank alot guys for your help,
tried to get some kind of answer from them, but as some of you said,
they are probably only good for buying the domain for them, or maybe if you do some expensive hosting.
I have another web site hosted a Verio, and it works great for 12$ a month
I think I'll move there, I don't need anything fancy
just php on a linux server.
thank you all

My understanding is that they're hosting operation is poor throughout - regardless of how much you're paying them for it!
We've had plenty of VPS and dedicated server customers move to us from GoDaddy citing their poor service/support as one of the main reasons.
For obvious reasons, I don't tend to gain personal experience of other hosting providers, but some of the comments I hear about them when discussing our services during pre-sales tell me all I need to know...

I tend to agree with gate2vn's view that the above is probably a sensible option; if you've found a good provider that suits your needs then it's probably a good idea to stick with them.
That said, I don't want to encourage everyone to stay put 'cos then they're not moving to Layershift

Google can help you find hosts, but it doesn't tell you if they're any good!
Even many of the review sites are fake and/or full of fake "reviews" and therefore it's difficult to know what you can/can't trust; the same can also be said about endorsements in forum posts (these are often influenced by affiliate schemes and/or other incentives offered by the provider - sometimes in a very underhand manner).
The other important issue is that everyone has different expectations and requirements in their hosting - one person's perfect hosting provider could well be another's worst nightmare! This doesn't mean that everyone should move away from that provider, but it means that the only sure way to know how good (or bad!) a provider really is, is to actually use them yourself - obvious downside is cost/risk associated with it...

I would have to agree with what Damien said. Top 10 usually means top payer.

if you're happy with Verio, you should stay with them. Move to another host might bring a risk. Many good hosts, but they cannot please everyone

Godaddy's interface is rather confusing, I still prefer Namecheap.com for domain registration, there was one more good alternative, RF, but, alas, not any more.

You are not the only person having problems with Godaddy. I had arround 10 personal adsense driven websites, all hosted at Goddady some time ago and there where many problems because of frequent downtime. It is not even by far 90% uptime (very bad for a hosting company that asks for respect)

If you need help than you have to help us. Tell us more about
Your budged
Hosting requirements (diskspace, bandwidth, emails, preferred control panel etc)
Your priorities (uptime of the server, customer support etc)
And avoid to do hosting with the registrar company, in many cases has happened that a registrar is GREAT (A+++) in domain name registration but terrible in hosting experience, registrars more give priority to the domain name registration business rather than the hosting.
