from godday to VPS ?
Hi, I have been reading the forum for some time and so far every question I needed to post was already answered somewhere on here.
Basically I’ve bought about 25 url’s over the last 2 years, mostly I sit at home on my laptop and think off good names and if they don’t exist I buy them with this absurd
dream that some company one day will buy it of me for boats loads of wonger.
My web mastership is not great; I actually watched a tutorial video to get to grips with the fundamentals of SEO and so on. As a practice exercise they used godday for domain hosing, so being naive I used them as well. To be honest they have served their purpose, I have never needed any helpdesk advise ,so I haven’t any complaints.
Now I want to start to make some money out of these Url’s that are just sitting around, godday have the cash parking but you cant do any SEO on them, and they block google bot so I have read here.
So I was wondering, would it be a good idea to rent a starter dedicated/shared host in the UK (that’s where I live) and transfer my urls to that? I’m worried that godday will charge huge amounts of money to release them. I can always just use their DNS pointer but I don’t know if that affect traffic speeds. I sort of want to build up a portfolio of Url’s a bit like car number plates in the uk, as a future investment. Really what I would like is my url’s now and in the future on my own DNS server if that’s at all possible..!
I’m going to ask various other things in other threads so this doesn’t get to confusing.

I would stay away from Godaddy hosting. There are so many host to choose from, you can find a shared hosting plan with unlimited domain hosting. Try doing a Google search for UK web host.

Hello Fivetide,
It shows that you have a gr8 interest of registering domains but I am sure that domains might not be under your control/ownership In future you will be registering more domains thus I will suggest you to check out for a hosting provider who can offer your a reseller account in which you get more free features like free reseller registrar account which can really help you to register your domains and be them under your control.
Also, if you need to transfer your domain you can get them done. Let me know if you need any kind of assistance in this regards, I am here
Also, you can host those domains and can start your business with the same provider.
Please let me know if you need my assistance, I will be at your disposal
Thank you.

Hi Fivetide,
I've been using bytehouse.co.uk for VPS hosting for a while now, and have only had a positive experience from them. I think they've got shared and reseller accounts.
I notice you've mentioned VPS, is that what you want? To be honest, I used to use a dedicated server, but found that a VPS platform did what I wanted for a lot less
Good luck in your entreperneurship :p

Hello!
Make sure that you need those changes at all. I think that it is very important. Do not migrate just to migrate

I think a VPS solution is the best way oout in this case. A2hosting.com provides them cheaply. Just $17.95.

If all you are going to do is put up small sites to start them, any reasonable quality shared hosting account ($5-10 per month) that allows addon domains will do the job for you. If your sites get busy then you may need to move some or all of them to a dedicated solution later.
Leave the domains at godaddy and just change the nameservers once you have a hosting account. GD is a safe registrar and you can host domains anywhere in the world using them as the registrar.
As to whether to host in the UK or the USA, it depends on what you think the market for the site would be. Pick the location that will give the fastest load times to the users. If your FTP connection is a bit slower, so what, you don't do that as often as your visitors use your pages.

I don't think you need a VPS. Since most of these sites are small, a reliable reputable shared plan can handle the traffic for you. Just switch from godaddy to some quality shared plan (e.g. HostGator). However, if you don't have Linux experience, a VPS will cost you more than $40/mo.
And when your sites grow up, and the shared plan can't fit them, you can upgrade to VPS swiftly.

If you are not sure siggn up for the company offers both shared and dedicated (or VPS).
Lunarpages.com (shared VPS and dedicated ) A2hosting.com (shared, VPS, semidedicated or dedicated) or Hostgator.com (shared and dedicated).
I think if you are with one of them and like you can to upgrade your package within one company.

Upgrading between shared and VPS isn't necessarily a flawless process - even if you're sticking with the same provider. Shared hosting will generally mean that you're sharing an IP with other customers and therefore you can't just move that IP to your VPS; this means DNS propagation / caching problems as a *minimum* ... the smoothness of the data migration itself depends on the quality of your provider and whether they're handling it or you...

Hello,
So many have answered your question, but let me try to add my bit.
1. Crteating websites for 30 domains and expecting them to bring in traffic and money is not realistic. You need to put in tons of work to make some money on net. 30 domains is more than what you can handle.
2. An idea for website should come first and then the domain name. You are just thinking reverse and that doesnt look positive to me.
3. You dont need VPS/Dedicated or whatever. You just need a $7 per month hostmonster/bluehost shared hosting with unlimited add-on domains for all your sites together.
4. You just have to change the DNS at godaddy. Thats how the whole world does it. Godaddy wont ask you for money in case you want to move to a new registrar. But you shouldnt think about looking for another regtstara. In future also, use godaddy for doamin registration.
5. If you wanna be a webmaster, just think about 1-2 great idea and create sites around it. making money online is a lot harder than you believe. So put in your 100%, if you start something.
best of luck.
