From U.S. host to Canada host?
Hey gang,
I'm hoping someone can help.
I'm currently hosted in the U.S. but thinking of switching to a Canadian host physically located in Canada in the city where I live. The .com would remain the same and I'd be keeping the domain registrar as is in the U.S. with the current hosting provider, but switching the DNS info to the Canadian host.
My site has great placement and rankings in Google due to our SEO efforts, but I'm REALLY nervous about how switching hosts from U.S based to Canadian based could affect and/or negatively impact search results and placement within Google and across the board.
If anyone could share their thoughts or give me some advice on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

If you are just switching hosts, then there should be no negative side effects.
If you were switching .com to .ca, then yes, that would affect you. Since your domain name is remaining the same, then there is no actual change as far as Google or anyone else can see.
Just setup your site on the new hosting before you switch DNS. The transfer will effectively be seamless.

It is very easy in case if both of companies are using Cpanel. All what you need in this case - change the nameservers on the domain name registrar.

Why do you want to host your web site with the Canadian companies?

I don't think changing server will affect on SEO part, just take care that you won't make any changes in any URLs and also keep your old site files accessible on the old server for normally one month at least.

There were some talk about google taking the domain extension .tld and server IP as one of the source for ranking the particular domain in local serps. domainname.ca + canada IP will do better in google.ca , domainame.com + US IP will be good in google.com.
It would be good to consult a professional seo before taking the move.

What is the reason for the switch from a US Host to a Canadian Host? What Canadian city are you in? Just curious.

It shouldn't affect your ranking but it will be a good idea to leave your site up on the old host for about a month to ensure that the DNS propagates across the Web and that the search spiders are indexing the pages at the new host. Once you see the spiders in your log files at the new host, it should be safe to take down the site at the old server.

I think that the main reason is audience location.

Moving to canadian host is good. There would be some SEO advantage(your site ranking better for canadians) and site will load faster for local audience.

I can advise you a reputable Canadian company SiberName.com. This company provides not only web hosting services and specializes in domain registration but offers SEO services as well. Think they'll meet all your needs.

Where's Sibername.com datacenter located?
Also do you think it's wise to go for seo services from a hosting company?

SiberName.com has their datacenter in Ottawa.
Why not to use SEO services from the web hosting company? Usaully they do it in a quality way.
I see that Sibername specializes in domain registration as well. How good are they here?
