Lycos web hosting

I have used Lycos web hosting for a few domain names in the past and have often recommended them to other people. Now I regret it

This means that my latest site www.ultimatehandyman.org is offline and has been for 4 days so far, this is because the Lycos control panel will not accept the new ip addresses of the new server for the site. Now it looks like it could be another three days before the issue is resolved.

I sent them a ticket over this and even telephoned them about it and they said that it was my new web hosts fault, I contacted the web hosts and they said it was Lycos's fault. I then telephoned Lycos (0870 number- only available 8am-5pm monday to friday) and they said it was my webhosts

My new web hosts recommended that I move the domain name out of Lycos and so I started the procedure online a couple of days back. I just telephoned Lycos support and they were very unhelpful, saying that you cannot use the Lycos control panel to point a domain to a dedicated server- despite the fact that it has been pointing to a different dedicated server for the last couple of months. I then asked them for an authorisation code and they said that they could not do this over the phone and that I had to use the online form, which will be answered in the next 72 hours.

I cannot believe that a well known company like Lycos can run a business like this. Their support is only available during office hours and then you have to wait three days for a response or call their rip off 0870 number.

I guess the moral of the story is do not use Lycos.

They're not serving DNS for your domain - I presume they're your new provider, in which case I'd expect to see you again here in a few months making a similar post about them instead...

The dns settings are locked to the 1and1 server that I used to be on!

I bought the domain name through Lycos

I cannot change the dns setting in the Lycos control panel from 1and1 (my old server) to my new server with Infrenion. The Lycos control panel will not let me change the dns setings to my new server. I have emailed Lycos a few times and called them a few times and the last time they said that their system does not support dedicated servers, despite the fact that my site has been on a 1and1 dedicated server for a few months.

When I called them yesterday I was told to submit a ticket online. I have tried to move the domain to another registrar, but I am waiting for Lycos and have been waiting for 5 days now

I think lycos webhosting is not in the top ten list , IMO and you may have problems.

I need to add this, Lycos is CRAP for domains DO NOT BUY DOMAINS FROM THEM! You cant pass them to another Lycos customer, you are very limit what you can do with them. You cant set up pricate nameservers with the domains also!

I agree 100%. they should be avoided at all costs. Their support is also bloomin awful!

If you like to buy domains , then go for godaddy where domain management is very easy and you can transfer domains between accounts without any hassels.

ipower is also good to buy domains at $6.5 per year including free privacy.

You made a right move. I have got hundreds of domains with godaddy and you may order cash parking from them as well.
