2 domains on 1 isp?

This might be a stupid question, but since I don't know the answer...

I have an ISP account with one domain associated with it. Can I buy a 2nd domain and associate it with that same ISP? If so, how does that work? Can I set up, say, an XHTML site and a Wordpress blog that remain completely independent?

If you really meant to say ISP account, I am not sure what you meant.

The number of domains you can host on a hosting account or IP is limited only by the restrictions created by your hosting company. If your plan allows for addon domains you are good to grow. .

If you are on a dedicated server and have cPanel or WHM you are also ready to go.

The process is slightly different on the set up, both both work exactly the same as far as the web visitor and SE are concerned. The two or twenty sites are different entities.

He's right.
Just look for the 'addon domains' icon in your cPanel.
You also need to set the nameservers at your domain registrar.

Yep - as said above, it depends on your provider. Also beware of terminology since hosting more than one domain and hosting multiple separate websites can be a different issue.

I'm most familiar with Plesk, so I'll explain regarding that:
Plesk limits in terms of "domains" which are best thought of as "websites" - so we can sell plans with an increased number of domains which would do exactly what you're asking here.

However, Plesk also has domain aliases - this enables you to have multiple domains sharing one single webspace. From the visitors point of view, they can navigate around your entire site and see the address bar change appropriately. It basically parks one domain ontop of another (but this is different to forwarding one domain to another).

For the record, forwarding a domain would be considered (by Plesk) as using a domain slot as per that domain limit I mentioned above.

So it's important to explain to your provider exactly what you want to be able to do so that they can provide you with the appropriate features on your hosting plan.
