Users Online...?

If I open a forum on a shared hosting account, say godaddy.com - I can only have around 25 members online at one time before they suspend me for eating up system resources.

Is it the same for a membership site?

If I open a regular membership site with a login page and register page, then 2000 people join the site, and I have 150 people logged into the membership site at the same time, will it be the same and use up the same amount of system resources?

The members page is just a blog. You have to be logged in to read the blog though...so if 150 people are reading the blog at the same time, and all of them logged in at the same time...will I still have to upgrade to a VPS?

Or does a forum naturally eat up a lot more resources/memory when multiple people are logged in at the same time?

It is urgent.

A forum will use some more resources than a static HTML page of course. But if you think that you will need something more than 25 users online at one time, you might consider another web hosting provider that does not have this limitation.

I recommend AQHost for busier forums/blogs that run MySQL backends.

Check Mediatemple.com and Serverpoint.com if you are after a stable forum hosting provider.

As you will have more users online, your site will take more cpu and memory. again you will make more Mysql connections.
But all these softwares will be having different usages, so we cannot tell how much users will be able to login in your account.

But as you get more users, you will need to go for higher packages.

martyan, thank you for warm words.
What software are you using? Maybe it worth to have a look at the web site of developer? As rule there are suggestions on the webhosting providers on the site.
