can anybody tell me free web hosting is harmful or not? Can we host our web site for free ?

You can find decent hosting very cheap these days and I would not suggest the free hosting route.

The problem with most free hosts is that they require ads on your site or are restrictive to what you can do unlike a paid host who does not need to make income in some secondary format. Other than that I do not see why using a free host is a problem.

There are a few that do not require you to have ads on your site. A great way to get up a first site, my fear is that if the company decides things are not working out the can just shut the whole thing down.

There is no harm in free hosting...... but always keep the backup of your website .
if you do regular backup then you don't need to worry about your host

Free hosting is not harmful, but you will not get the same perks out of it that you get for a paid web host. As the price of hosting is continuously decreasing, I'd recommend just looking into a cheap web host. This will ensure that you have reliable uptime as well as support if ever needed.

As am in this field from last 8 year and seeing everything or got ****ed up time ago. well free hosting is just an sick thing why they offer free here it is.
they need to know things they need your sites copy they need your sql dump or users info these are the main point why they offer free.
or some give real offer for free because they put their website banner or text link with you in that case you are loosing you web users.

Free web hosting is great for non commercial sites. Heard it is also useful for spaming.

If your site is none of the above, go for a paid host.

How about 'ALMOST FREE' I'm paying $80 (annually) thru a friend (someone who owns his own servers) -- best part is he's in my same line of work & understands English*

Now as for free web hosting it is not harmful but you need to keep in mind the host has no real obligations at all. So if they've lost interest or are not making money they're likely to run off. With web hosting at least you're paying something so if you choose a good host it's unlikely they run away with your money.

So I'd say if your site is at all serious or you plan on it being serious just pay the $30/yr or whatever it is to get more stable form of web hosting.

with Shared Hosting so affordable these days it makes more sense to pay a little and not deal with forced ads, over-packed shared server, slow processors, etc

Just look around and for a few bucks you will get started and be happy
