Vbulletin or phpbb
Hi, i'm going to set up a site together with a forum and i would like to know if i wan to add those features like karma system, pts sys, bank, betting sys, which would be a better option, Vbullentin or phpbb?
Is it true that phpbb is free while VBulletin needs a license to use their forum?
Which is the most reasonable host u guys suggest? better if they provide the forum installation with the package...
Thanks for the helps in advance..

yes vbulletin charges.
vbulletin is one of the best out there. security updates, technical help.
pgpbb is free but not a bad system. You do everything. Most people on forums will help you.

I would also choose vbulletin: It costs something, but it is much better than phpbb.
As a free one i would recommend phpbb. But if you really want to build upa big community, you should use vbulletin.

I'd recommend using phpbb if you'd like to add those mods, they are super easy to install with this script. You could even go and install a modified version of phpbb, like phpbbfm (fully modded) where all of those mods + more come pre-installed for you.

If it's a serious site I'm always a big fan of vbulletin. But if it's just going to be a small time site then there is nothing wrong with phpbb.

first one the best one among paid ones and at all. The second one is the best among free ones. So you decision is always depends on budget you ready to spend for forum software.

The only thing that bugged me about phpbb was I had to do the upgrades and spam blocking. Meaning I had to see if there was upgrades and all. I was just too busy to worry about that.
That's why I use Vbulletin.

Can we control registration process using vbulleting. Like if someone want to register then we only allow those who are related to the forum

I just bought my 2nd Vbulletin and I forgot about all the hacks you can place on it. Guess I need to update my first board.

Really? Did not know that before, that you ran phpbb before. In my view vbulletin is the best forum software ever.
It looks brilliant, it has a lot of features and is safe.
What do you want more? :p

Vbull is obviously better than phpBB for several reasons. phpBB is cool for learning because after installing multiple mods on every phpBB installation I did just to make it palatable I was able to write my own simple ones. That was years ago and I don't currently have a Vbull but have helped on a few.
It's kind of like comparing an Audi to a Taurus.
