These are the most reliable web hosting companies....
There are plenty of cheap hosting providers out there, however wich one of them is the most reliable that supose to be a question. As of 6/03/2004 these are what we like...
If you need to host a simple site, for demonstration purposes only then the best hosting from our experience is the new commer to the market, it is
http://www.1and1.com it offers plenty of packages and overall 99% uptime, they also own their own back bone. They charge $50 per year and they have the cheapest domain name registration of $5.99. They also offer cheap microsoft hosting. We host 15 web sites with them for about half a year now, management is great and we love them.
If you need to host an ecommerce web site with a shopping cart such as MIVA I would advice you to go with http://www.speedfox.com From our experience they are the most reliable as of 06/03/2004 . However, please do not pay 2 years in front because today they are most reliable tomorrow they might go belly up. Stick to month to month basis. It is $10 per month I believe. Their up time is pretty good.
If you need to host a PHP with MYSQL web site then there could not be a better solution than http://www.ipowerweb.com We host multiple client's web sites with them for years now and so far for us they are the best. $100 per year including domain name.
We had experience with more than 14 hosting companies in the last 4 years and the above are the winners so far.
Hope this would help

GoDaddy vs. 1and1
In reply to rwotiz...
godaddy is a good hosting but there is an alternative that I have written about previously.
Lets compare GODADDY vs 1and1.
Domain name registration Godaddy 7.96 per year vs. 1and1 5.99 a year, $2 dollar difference right there.
Web hosting GoDaddy provides $3.95 per month vs. 1and1 $4.99 per year
however features are different
GoDaddy offers 25MB vs 1and1 500MB of space
GoDaddy offers 1GB transfer vs 1and1 5GB transfer per month
GoDaddy does not give a domain name free with this hosting plan (7.95$ per year extra) However 1and1 gives a free domain name with their cheapest hosting plan (5.99$ value)
Lets add things up a year of domain name hosting on godaddy would be $55.36 vs 1and1 $59.88
GoDaddy wins. but 1and1 gives features more space and more GB transfer and they own back bones. So I would rather pay $4.52 extra a year to sleep tight at night, without worrying that the site I build tomorrow must be under 25 MB, and should not attract any traffic.
Well one might say it is only couple of dollars here and there but for web developers who product multiple web sites it all adds up.
Oh and yes one more thing Godaddy I belive actually offers mysql db with that account and 1and1 do not. But GoDaddy will rip you off on statistics because you have to pay extra for it and 1and1 gives it free. However 1and1's statistics is no good for any professional.
Again it is just preferences, and I have no affiliations with either of the companies except that I host 15 web sites with 1and1 and so far I do not receive any calls from my clients in the middle of the night telling me that their site is down.

re IXWEB HOSTING
Plans look good for IX WEB HOSTING however 20$ setup charge, kind of make these plans look bad.

Lots of useful information...
One major important thing to note about 1and1.com... they reserve the right to keep your domain name if you cancel prematurely.
I like godaddy.com for registering domains; not for hosting.
I like olm.net for hosting... especially when you can get a dedicated IP hosting package for $6.95/month USD with no setup fee.
Check it out at http://www.olm.net/cnet/

I personally use http://www.Interland.com for my corporate accounts and myself. It's a little pricey but very reliable. I use a reseller account for my smaller clients with http://www.resellerchoice.com/. They offer a variety of packages that are not only reasonable but very competitive with the features.
As far as registration I use register.com. Once again a little more expensive but when dealing with corporate clients the name goes a long way. Most big corporations will not deal with you if you are not using big name companies. I actually lost a few bids in the past because my pricing was too low. Funny how that works.

You really recommend Interland?
Wow; that's really surprising considering their rating is 2.07 out of 10.00 (156 votes) on http://www.webhostingratings.com/plans/Interland.html
Extremely high prices.
Extremely low ratings.
Not a wise choice in my opinion; but that's just my opinion as a consumer.
Do you have anything that may suggest otherwise?

I have never had any problems with them. I was actually using hostpro.com. Interland bought them several years ago and my plan was grandfathered in. I pay $45 a month for 100 GIG of storage, unlimited bandwith (transfer). My plan includes SQL Server 2000, Miva Shopping Cart, ASP, .NET, PHP, MySQL, SSL, CGI, Perl, unlimited email accounts, unlimited sub domains, free seo online tools, web trends reports and some additional items I can't recall.
I just went to their site and their plans are so different now. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones. I much rather pay more with a company that's going to be around than go cheap for a company that may "potentially" go under in less than a year.
I guess it's more of a comfort level. And as I mentioned in my previous post. Many of my bigger clients like the name vs the cost.

Sounds like you got a kick@$$ deal.
Too bad it's not around anymore or I'd jump on one too.
Thanks for the info.

Hostmonster has been good to me, they are the parent company of Bluehost. They are cheap and have a lot of nice features.

Why do you want the CHEAPEST one? As far as I know, the cheapest ones are FREE. You can find a lot at http://freewebspace.net/forums/ and many of them are very good.
If you are looking for the most cost-effective ones, I'd recommend HostGator, HostICan, and BlueHost. As far as I know, BlueHost & HostingMonster are the same company, but Bluehost targets at mid-to-high end customer, and provide more reliable service.

Hostgator has some negative things against them if you read reviews. Same with lunarhost but some people swear by lunarhost.

Create short list of companies and run your own surway on them with lots of presales questions. And remember: You get what you pay for.
