What's above average for time spent on a website?

I was wondering what the average amount of time spent on a website would be. What is "above average" and what's "below average"? I'm getting about 690 seconds for an average, and about 30% stay 5 minutes or longer, but 52-53% exit in less than 30 seconds. Is this good?

My website may be too new to get meaningful stats (about 2 weeks old), but what if you get people staying there for a while, but noone buys anything?

Also..

Also.. Stats that say the amount of time a user spent on a website can be miss-leading. Remeber that the time is still counted when people use more than one browser window.

It also depends how many visitors your site gets, as more visitors means more reliable stats.

A five minute stay on a website is a long time for most market areas so SOMETHING is interesting. Check your analytics to see what pages other than the Landing page get the most traffic. This begins to tell you what is of interest on your site, and, it should lead you to where people are exiting the webs site.

Now you can narrow down WHY they are leaving, and presumably take so action to get them more likely to buy.

Good luck!
