I guess I really don't have a problem with drop down menus. When they are employed correctly (cross browser compatible and not touchy to use) they are quite useful and can eliminate extra clicks to get somewhere.
When I think of using eBay without drop down menus, for example, I just don't think it would be good for usability to remove them from that site. I can jump around really quick and speed on eBay is important in a lot of situations.
I have ran into some bad drop-down menus though and every time I have been frustrated by one it just comes down to the webmaster implementing a bad menu system that is touchy and doesn't functionally work well in popular browsers.
