What Every Website Should Include Above the Fold

This is an interesting find. Your opinions are more then welcomed.

If you've spent any time in the world of web design, you've probably heard the term above the fold. This term originated in the newspaper industry, where it refers to the content that is literally on the top half of the page the part that's showing when the paper is folded in half.

In web design, the term has a similar if slightly different meaning above the fold is the portion of a web page that displays without having to scroll. This area can vary from screen to...

Bernadette Coleman didn't really say anything new... And completely missed her chance to rant about the poorly designed sites (esp blogs), that have nothing of interest up there...

Can't tell you how many blogspot garden blogs have a big a** picture occupying the entire space above the fold... and every time you click to the next page, that picture is there... occupying that valuable real estate... And we have to scroll past it to get to anything of interest...

The header images should be as small as we can make them... or do away with them... completely...
All that is needed before the content is the site name, & some navigation to the main sections of the site.
Shove the rest into the sidebar... And... it's possible to put too much there also... so... be constantly on the search for stuff to remove...

Article offered nothing new of substance. Also, newsletters are great but they arent vital above the fold. Unless driving newsletter sign ups is the main purpose of the page.

It's not basic because a lot of website owners go overboard with ads above the fold because they are greedy.

People come to read content on your website and don't need to see useless stuff above the fold. The goal is to keep the visitor on your website longer which could lead to your making money.
