Think Breadcrumb Links Arenít Good For User Experience? Yes, They Are!

Do you have them?

These are important and remember to incorporate them into your designs.

ďBreadcrumb links are not good for the user experience!Ē proclaim members of the website design/development team from a colleagueís company, with arms folded and glares that might melt a few icebergs.

I admit that situations like this one are difficult, because: (A) the design/development team is clearly not interested in discussing the topic, and (B) the design/development team might have a different perception of user experience (UX) than I have.

I prefer Peter Morvilleís User Experience Honeycomb because it does not discount the importance of findability. His UX Honeycomb also includes the concept of delight. Desirable content can also delight users.

Breadcrumbs is a must have for websites. I helps the visitor know where is he and always helps to navigate back to the parents pages easily.

Do you incorporate them into your designs for clients or explain to them the importance of having these?

Yes, they are must for most of the websites!
Although modern design, tends to disappear them, i believe that are necessary and helpful for the site's visitors.

I like location based breadcrumbs more than path based as the latter seem more complicted for the user. The location based breadcrumbs encourage a user to click back through to the main subcategory rather than clicking the X on the tab to leave the site. In this way, they are likely to explore more topics on site rather than leave.
