Best content managment program?
Hola,
Im going to be doing a project mainly for my better half, as we both like to cook and have many family recipes, We decided to put together a small recipe site. So far we are just writing down recipes and content and I havent started fooling with any thing on the web yet besides securing the domains we will use.
Basically what I would like to do, is use some kind of content managment system that is easy for a monkey to use. Not that my girls a monkey but i want it to be pretty easy to navigate and for her to be able to upload recipes and pictures without having to mess with any code persay.
So far i am leaning towards Joomla, but after playing with it for a little there is a lot of buttons if you know what i mean. But im thinking once it's all setup with categories and what not, then the adding the recipes and images part will require minimal time, Im hoping any way.
Does any one use a content managment system thats similar or that you could recommend and have some experience with one. Im just looking for something with an easy to use back end.
thanks,

I don't think Wordpress gets much easier on the backend and with the new release, you can easily use it as a CMS now. It's also pretty lightweight as opposed to Joomla, Mambo, Drupal, etc. I actually find those CMS's not at all user-friendly.
Give Wordpress a spin, I think you'll like it. Also, it's pretty SEO friendly out of the box.

Originally i was going to give the new wordpress a spin and still might actually. I know the old version isnt so seo friendly out of the box. It does require some reconfiguring, not sure about the new version, will have to check it out.
My reason for not trying the new version of wordpress yet was basically i wanted to see if their was any bugs or issues with the new release.
But right now Im basically leaning towards either Joomla or the new Wordpress release. I guess i will have to install both to see which is easier to use and such.
thanks

Cool, thanks for that. I just checked it out and it seems very similar to the older version.
Was the new version just security updates and such or are there any new features i missed?

As popstalin said Joomla is heavier, so im kinda stuck. I think i definatley <<< still cant spell that right with spell check on
Have to install both and use em for a month each to see what i will like.
Thanks for the help ladies and gents

I am a Joomla fan. I don't know much about wordpress so I can't talk on it. Even with Joomla being heavy, it has an awesome ability to grow as you want the site to grow and give you users to do more without having to re-establish the site. Word press can be bridged into Joomla I believe as well. I think for any website builder I would get the heavier CMS like Drupal or Joomla and scale it down to what I need by disabling the components I don't need. Use Drupal for a more community based CMS, and Joomla for more ecommerce, easy layout/theme site.

Joomla is much more complicated than Wordpress from my view. I have few sites developed by using Wordpress, but now, we are using our own CMS It's more flexible, and easier to modify to meet customers' demands

I was porting an old static html site to Joomla. The new wordpress release made me think twice. Now i have decided to make it on Wordpress. Its light weight, seo friendly and effective

Personally I'm a big fan of WP but Joomla looks like it could be a better long term solution for strictly content management.

I've usually had my cms and sites built for me, or I've pieced together assorted sites of mine. But this last week I've been using wordpress and realize I could have saved myself alot of money. Easy to use, functional, seo friendly. So far, so good.

I have tried them all and modx is the best http://www.modxcms.com/ the other cms systems just limit what I want to do.
I'm a web designer so I dont want my site to look like every other site, joomala or whatever its called and mambo sites stand out like a sore thumb, they all look the same, just clones of each other.
Modx takes some effort to use, but if you stick with it, its amazing.

If you need a powerful platform that can handle almost anything you can think of give drupal a try. You can checkout www.drupalmuseum.com to see some example.
If your needs are simple go with wordpress.

Nvu and Adobe's new Contribute function like word processors and allow users to modify existing sites. For updating content, you could train complete newbies in a couple of hours. I'm not terribly fond of Contribute because of bugs, slow operation, and price, but what little I've worked with Nvu makes me like it.
