Free website monitoring tool
Hi guys,
not sure if this is the right section for this but couldn't decide where else to post it, basically i'm looking for a free website monitoring tool to record the length of time a visitor stays on a given page, can this be done?
I know there are tools for recording visitors, what keywords they use to find your site etc but can you record how long a visitor stays on a page for?
Thanks in advance for any comments

Some server cp's(control panels) have built in stat monitors. You should check your control panel at your web server to see if you have that option. I know c-panel has them.

There are many free / paid statistics.
You can install / upload it to your server.
but it will require more space.
so, you can also use third party services
like Google Analytics...

Like others, I recommend Google Analytics. You do need to put javascript on all of your pages, but it's a task you'll only need to do once.
I also use awstats to parse my logs too. It's a free cgi script you can install on most hosted solutions.

Awstats is a basic tool would more than suffice. The thing is not to get too obsessed with these numbers but rather use them to tell you the things you need and want to know. Cheers!

Quite right PPD! I can install Awstats, available from my host with a single button press, but it is TOO basic.
Google Analytics is (a little) more trouble to install yet well worth it for the quality and completeness of reporting you get.

www.StatCounter.com is free and it does estimate length of visits. With StatCounter, the length of visit measurement only works if the vistor views more than one page. Here is a public profile for a website being monitored by StatCounter:
http://my7.statcounter.com/project/s...ect_id=3823674
In the left hand column, you can click visit length to get a pie chart breakdown. You can also click Recent Visitor Activity to see the length of visit of individual visitors, where they went, how long they spent on each page, how they got there, where they are geograpically, etc. It's all free.

I've used w3counter.com it's pretty cool as it's free and gives you live visitor stats.
