Slicing and dicing with usability and accessibility

ok, I am trying my best to stick to w3c guidelines for accessibility and mr. nielsen's advice on usability. If we do follow the W3c how on earth do we come up with innovative design.
I can't see how when slicing into tables in Image Ready and the like, how it is possible to follow any web design guidelines. Especially when tables are not recommended for building new sites.
I have more on this issue but my wife is calling me for tea!!!!

Ok, maybe I was not making sense b4, but having read fundamental Web Design by Glasshaus pulications, I find that recommendations are not to carry on with tables and to use layers and CSS for layout.
I'm actually all in favour of this as CSS is very powerful. However, I have just laid out a heap of money for Photocshop CS, as I need to have this in my arsenal and want to try out some more lavish designs, and develop some interesting interfaces.
Does designing with Photshop hinder or help usability? Do I just happily carry on with Photoshop and slice away making table after table or is it going to make for some accessibility problems?
Confused

You should be able to use CSS and photoshop - you just have to do the HTML and CSS by hand.

I'm not saying you can do everything as you'de want to yet - but CSS (and browser support) can only get better!

Learn Photoshop! Most designs begin here! CSS is great I just don't make any layouts with it lol
