A colleague and I are writing a research paper on “user friendliness” as it relates to website design. We’re asking our colleagues in the web design community to help us find illustrations of both the [B]good, the bad, and the ugly in user-friendly websites. For the purposes of this research, we define “user friendliness” (in part) as “the degree to which — by its look and its feel and its functionality — a website site [or webpage] engenders a sense of comfort and confidence within the mind (particularly) of first-time visitors.”
We’re asking for examples of what you’d consider to be both highly friendly websites or webpages, and also of extremely unfriendly websites or webpages. We’re looking specifically for examples (good and bad) of Landing pages, Home pages, About Us pages, Product Catalog and e-Commerce pages, FAQ pages, and Sign-In/Log-In pages.
If you’d like to help with this research, just send the URLs you think we should look at, with maybe a brief note about why each exemplifies either the “good” or the “ugly” in user-friendly design. (And don’t be shy about sending us some of your own work if you’re especially proud of its user friendliness!) If you’d like to receive a free advance copy of the research paper once we’ve completed it, just let us know in your return email.
Thanks so much for your help. We’re grateful for whatever contributions you’d be willing to make!
Very gratefully yours,
Edward Shaw
