Drop Downs or Radio buttons

In giving end-users the option to select from a category, which are more friendly - drop downs or lists with radio buttons?

Thanks.

I think it depends on how many options there are. Radio buttons are good if there are only a few options to choose from. If you have a ton of options, radio buttons could take up a lot of space on a page.

This is just my opinion.

Trying to come up with an "Update Billing" form and thought it would be easier to have the billing payment methods (Amex, Visa, MC, etc) and have the users current method pre-checked and if they wanted to change, just click the radio button. But for something like expiration date, drop down seem the standard and the only thing that make sense.

Thanks for the input!

In this peripherally related study, it's interesting to note that the research subjects often complained about items not being visible. A modest vote against drop-down anything, perhaps.

also dates are easier to type in a box (or boxes) than to pick from 3 drop-downs
