Hi,

I plan on offering my seo services to web site owners who are
deep down in Google's results for their main keyword.

How can I make sure I get paid after I get them a top ten ranking in Google.

Don't sell your services based on promises of a top ten ranking. That would be a good start.

Selling SEO based on results is not bad if you can produce the results. I'd just come up with a contract that states what you're doing and how long it will take to get the outcome and that if you don't get the results within X amount of time but have put in so many hours of work into the site then the project is still considered complete. And paying half upfront and half on completion is good.

I would advise to stay loacl if you are offering your services this way. If they are not local some businesses will just not pay, they know it is too hard to get the money from them.

I do this sometimes with my own seo business - but I do try to get some up front and then the rest on results - with local businesses it has been fairly easy to get them to rank and I have been using your tactic for a while. Another is to see who is adverting using Google and not ranking - sometimes that mean less education of them on my part as they are aware of some elements of online business.

My advice to you is optimize your site, meanwhile you can look projects in freelancing sites.

If you would like, you can mail the companies having lower page rank.

SEATTLE – The Washington Attorney General’s Office is suing a Redmond-based seller of e-commerce services whose failed promises to rev up Web traffic for small businesses drove many customers to file complaints.

“When it comes to Internet search results, every small business wants to pull rank,” Attorney General Rob McKenna said. “Merchants hoping to increase their online sales paid thousands of dollars to Visible.net and Captures.com but didn’t always receive the top listings and other services they were promised.”

The lawsuit announced today by the AGO was filed late Wednesday in King County Superior Court. It accuses Visible.net, Captures.com and their owner, Gilbert Walker, of violating state consumer protection and telemarketing laws.

Even if you did get them to the "top ten", there is no promise that they will stay there. If you tell a customer that you will get them to the top ten, they rank well for a week or two, you get paid, your customer losses ranking - then what will you do?

As an SEO consultant, never promise results that you have no control over. And you have no control over google ranking. The only person in the world that can promise good google ranking is the owner of google.

take the money.. and offer a money back guarantee if they are not in top 10 within 60 days. tell them they can pay via paypal for protection.

or offer a monthly subscription where you "look after the site" and get it in the top rating for as long as they keep paying the fee...

so you get a residual income.

Always tell your customers to post their job on something like Odesk.com or rentacoder.com so that you can bid on the job successfully and at least you'll have a third party service in between you and the buyer.
