Revenue: Ads vs. Products

I have a great idea for a website, but not exactly sure what would be more profitable. What way would be the best?

1. Very unique yet very WANTED information gathered into a psd or some type of ebook and sold on the website.

2. Very unique yet very WANTED information gathered in the website for free use by the public, and revenue would be collected through ads.

PSD?why on earth would u create an ebook in PSD?did u mean PDF?
as for your question,why not go for both! I'm doing something similar.Very unique software for free but has ads at it.If someone wants to get the ads removed,he'll have to pay.Try something similar

If it's "Very unique yet very WANTED information" I'd sell it as an eBook. But if the information has a dynamic content (which is updated in time maybe) then, going for a website could be better.

What's wrong with selling it and having 1 or 2 ad's on your page...
Or sell it, and have an affilaite proram to promote it more..

I guess nothing. Do a cost/benefit analysis and play is all out on paper to see what the best topline is for you.

Bassicly what you need to think about.
How much could i make on advertising? Well probably not that fantastic. Maybe 5$ per 1000 pageloads(the 5$ is a quess and it can differ quite a lot depending on your site. I've had them as high as 9$ but i also had very low ones of about 1$)

And then think how much you can make selling the ebooks. The first thing you notice is that ebooks have a very high profit per sale. If your content is indeed very wanted this would mean you would have funds to advertise.. affiliate.. newsletter affiliates.
But that all depends on how wanted it is. But the high profit per sale allows you to do a lot of marketing. Whilzst having a site will tie you up pretty bad.

Also a very important thing to consider. Are any other people already offering this information. Are they offering on a website or as an ebook. Chances are your sales whil be not that great if somebody else is offering it for free on its website.
If you can get away asking money for your ebook go right ahead and do it

I'd go for the first option. If your information is "very unique" as you say, then they are probably not many ads that can be targeted to the content of your site.

Sell it!! and use adsense, it's not very difficult to see $10+ CPM with Adsense.

Sell it, but dont use ads. Why give your competition an ad on your site, and possibly lose a sale?
