Selling header links is a good way to monetize your forum. But should must be certain about your site's traffic before anyone may feel interested in purchasing a link. For me, if it's a PR 2 forum. I would say that $6 per month is fair.

The only downside to this, I would say is that, if you are a reputable forum owner and you sell a header ad that is sitewide, it might give a signal to Google that it is suspicious because there will be about millions of threads/posts pointing to that one little URL, which can be bad.
