Color schemes affecting CTR?
Has anyone found any evidence indicating that a certain color scheme on the website has an effect on the clickthrough rate?

Yes - color schemes that match your own site's design work the best, as they are more natural and don't turn visitors off.

In general it should match the design of your site. For aesthetical reasons mainly. For earnings I don't think it matters a lot; what matters most is traffic.

I tried light colors on one of my sites and had low CTR, tried a dark theme and it went up 10x I just wanted to know if anyone has had similar experiences.

depends on content and overall design, for example in the UK it is very common for people to have difficulty with overly complicated websites, websites with a Black background and white or green txt tend to just get users to Skip the site altogether unless they can really be bothered
an example would be, websites with a black background and large amounts of basic white txt as in a good 5 min read, most users will glance then go away, if there attention is not maintained or answer is not resolved within 2 to 3 lines, they will tend to skip it and go google another site
i dont know if its a full blown global phenonom, but in the states and UK users who regularly use the internet, and are more comfortable reading a physical book than online, have developed a type of ADD Since most where for the first 10 years of there life accustomed to reading in certain manors that the internet basically turns upside down, gradually most will get over this, but there is still a huge percentage that havent
it is basically to do with how, as we grow up and develop, our thinking and learning habits become a little flexed to work a certain way automatically
with older people it can worse, for example despite 200 odd attempts, i still cant get my mother to check her email or use google, however she can process large volumes on accountancy and law, and refile 2 dozen filing cabinets without stoping
back in 95, when the web was taking off, there was many websites that took a format like a book just because it was easier on many users
you prob seen it quite often but many current webdesigns take a format that resembles a page or piece of paper with content with txt clean clear and concise ontop of a background which could resemble anything from a tablecloth to a wooden table or wallpaper, and because of this it is easier for anyone to process

I believe it all depends on the mood of a visitor.
I find that matching my site's background color with the ads background increases my CTR.

I also agree that a pleasing color scheme will greatly encourage your readers to click away.

I think that color schemes are very important. The overall site color design could be good for users. If a user is not comfortable with the site color scheme then that will not be good. You can try different color schemes to see which one gives you the best results.

I would think that if your ad doesn't have enough colour contrast then it would be hard to read = low click through rate. As our society ages, you do have to consider the older people in our society, as they are the ones with the money to spend right now.
Then there's the culture differences on what colours mean.
Here's some info I also found:

Yep, color scheme of a website can affect its CTR/click-through rate. Well, IMO there are two ways on how your color scheme can affect your site's CTR. First, you can match the colors of your ads with the color scheme of your site. In that way, your visitors might recognize those links in your ads as part of your site and not as ads itself. Secondly, you can use contradicting colors to your ads to make it more noticeable to your visitors.
Honestly, I don't know which of the two is more effective but you can always conduct an experiment by changing your ads' font colors and its background for you to know which of the two will work best for your site. But since you've already told us that your CTR went up when you used a dark theme on your site, I guess there's no need for me to make this post longer.
Hope it helps.

I found that ad blending is always a virtue in terms of increasing your ad clicks. It helps to give people the feel that the ad is part of your site and might click on your ad.

Are you using image ads? I think that dark colored themes increase the contrast of images, making them more noticeable.
