How do these sites earn money?

I was just browsing through some blogs, then I wonder, how do these sites make money?

For example, all of Blogger's blogs do not have any advertising banner on them. Neither do those on LiveJournal or tBlog.

What gives? How do they support their sites? Purely by premium subscribers?

rushy is an unknown quantity at this point
not all blogs are out to make money though, mate, maybe the ones you looked at dont run a t a profit.

they could of course take payments for text link ads...but then that is purely an in the air idea.

also to google it is worth controlling all that data just to understand the social structure and social implications of various types of networks.

google controlling lots of data is a good thing for their relevancy algorithms.

The ones I've seen offer an upgrade package for $4.99 or $5.99/month to have more features on your blog-more bandwidth, more stats tracking options, etc.

Same here.

If it's what I think it is, who would pay to read a blog?

Lightbulb how to make money with your blog.

As LiveJournal tBlog
Actually they don't need earn money atm cause they have enough money .they just need more Visitors , More pageviews, More popularity.

then sold it OR ....

As personsl weblog (blogger)
first of all , members always got their blog free ,they have not think about EARN cause it's cost nothing for them but spend some time only.

and the second , actually there are many ideas to make money with blogs:
a.Google AdSense , many people using this idea
b.some CPS affiliate program,just like amazon.com , CJ , LinkShare, etc..
c.Donation(paypal , Amazon Honor System,Bitpass,etc..)
d.If you blog have mannny visitors ,you can sell something with your blog LOGO ,just like T-shirt , cup , cap .etc...
e.Subscribe... Charging For Content

and more....

Just 2 cents

btw :

Google doesn't have any quality standards from what i can see. And I just feel that there are too many "built for adsense" sites out there.

As an advertiser, I know that most "content advertising" has a terrible ROI (at least for the sites I work with).

And then there's the whole click fraud issue.....

I have met a bunch of people who make their living on Adsense. Its like this ... fire up a site ... get some reciprocal links ... put up adsense ... and wait for the visitors to arrive ... then whole site gets indexed by the bots ... more visitors ... just a basic thing - if a visitor lands on an utter boring page he always exits by clicking an Adsense. Most blogs are just done for personal fun/hobby. Although, some blogs (especially adult related ones) drive large amounts of traffic so they might generate money through google adsense (ppc traffic) where advertisers pay money for clicking on their banners.

I don't doubt many people are making very good money from AdSense but I would be doubtful that there are many out there getting CTRs of 90%....
