Don't build one, Build a million!

Why try hard and build 1 website that makes $1000 a month, if you can build 100 websites that earn $10 a month!

Just my advice, don't spend it all on 1 site, try to get your income covered over more then 1 site and 1 ad ( like adsense )!!

Eh, to be honest I'd prefer to have 1 good site to having 100 crap ones!

100 $10 sites will either require a lot of time to develop and build up or will just dwindle away into insignificance. A single $1000 site can be relatively self sufficient - it will gather natural links and exposure.

I agree that you need to diversify your income - but having a nice £1k site to work from is a good starting point, rather than trying to build up the income of 100 sites. I've got a £1k site (income from Adsense) - it takes no time to maintain at all. But if I put some cash into it and spent some time developing it even further it could easily be a $10k or $100k site (not from just Adsense). That's the difference IMO between 1 good site and 100 average sites.

Plus, if we're talking about a network of 100 sites then they always run the risk (more so than a single site) of being penalised.

totally agree with you here! BUT if you don't have much cash to start with, this is a great way of getting some cash to spend into the 1 site you want to make big! that was what I was trying to say here!

Al those 'adsense sites' are polluting the internet. Really.

That's a lot of unique content... wouldn't be worth it IMO.

I agree 100% ! When dealing with my last clients... I ran into a gentleman/spammer who has 10,000 websites run from some cheap script to target the highest paying keywords... then when 20,000 some pages were dropped from the Google index I get a heated phone call... much to his dismay he's not making the 10k per month that he had grown accustomed to! As bad as I felt for him I didn't report him to Google, and I didn't give a S*#t who did point being he's now gone and now in search for REAL work! How does that Black eyed peas song go? "Ain't no runnin from....karma, ain't no runnin"

give you're site's viewers something to read and enjoy and help them out!
then worry about making a buck or two! Otherwise you go on the list of CRAP that makes up half of this WWW!

Just my

I agree with the concept of focusing on a solid site as spreading yourself thin is quite tiring.

However ...

I have a site that gets over 200K visitors per month now, but the adwords are not high paying, so a little diversification can go a long way. Again, a little diversification, not a multitude.

To that end, I have geographically specific site geared toward my local community. When I heard Kirsten Dunst was going to be in a movie with this city's name it, I added a section to the local website about the movie and Dunst. The biggest referrer to this site has been my main site for over a year now.

Finding good, relevant ways to diversify can be handy; working smarter, not harder.

Sadly enough, I have to dissagree with "content is king".

As long as this issue is not solved by the search engines links will stay king...and content queen, and since Google is florishing well on adsense sites, me thinks it will take a long time before the serps are less spammy.

Different webmasters have different strategies, some love building sites and once they're built, they work on them a little bit here and there and make a nice income. Others focus on 1 project and brand it any chance they get. It all depends on what you are best at I think.

I think building a few website that make $1000s is better than making 100 website that make few dollars, for one, its hard to advertise that many website, its a lot easer to promote few website, unless you can have all of those 100 website on high page rank.

I think it's a lot easier to promote one or two websites that you've put your heart into. I think we have.... 30 websites? But I don't spend any time on the others and they just sit there.

Klaas Koopman,
I don't agree with you, I'd prefer 3 big sites that make 30$
