It's highly unlikely that the relative ranks of millions of sites remain the same even for a day, let alone a month.

While there's no reason to believe such to be inaccurate, there's no way that we can ever know for certain, as we don't have access to the raw data.

My site that has alexa ranking of 3.2mil, has around 700 visits / day and my other site that has alexa ranking of 1.8mil has around 8 visits / day. Not very reliable data.

Then you mean to say that it's not truly representative; that those who install the Alexa Toolbar do not constitute a sample that well describes the universe of users as a whole.

There is no reason to believe that the data reported to you are themselves an unreliable measure of the data collected by the toolbar.

What does such tell you about the actual performance of your site? What benefit does such ranking bring you?

Alexa ranking can be faked and is not good for much unless you are selling your site, and even then it's not worth much. Don't sweat it.

My sites get so little traffic there alexa ranks are god awful and wouldn't provide any valuable intel. And as you can gather by my response I don't look at Alexa rank much.

For Alexa Traffic Rank, all quite true.

Unfortunately, Alexa also gathers other and better analytical data, which few small time players know of, that is dismissed out-of-hand by those who know only of their Traffic Rank.
