Business coaching - wrong advice?

A friend has in the last six months become a business coach, and today I went to one of her sessions, where the subject was marketing. She went through the ideas of creating your own newsletter, or online magazine.

The session was great, and I picked up loads of useful advice from other businesses, but one thing I disagreed with her on was this.

If you have a newsletter and you are wanting people to advertise in it - should you keep the number of subscribers secret (she recommended you did) or should you mention this when they contact you?

Her theory was that it could be a competitor trying to get information about your business.

What's your thoughts on this?

Darren

Who would pay a cent to advertise in newsletter if they didn't know how many people it would be sent to? No one with any marketind sense, that's who

That might work on a CPA basis but even that would be a stretch.

Yes, I told her she was silly mentioning it - and I agree, second opinions are always good to hear

I don't think she'll be saying that next time anyway

So out of interest - how much would you pay for advertising in a newsletter, if it was your targeted audiance and had 2,000ish subscribers?

Print or e-mail?

In either case, 2K is pretty small list...too small for anything I work on. Even at a 1 - 2% response (which is highly unlikely) you'd end up with 1 or 2 sales/conversions.

that's ridiculous - of course you'd need to know the number of subscribers before anyone would pay to advertise with you. Otherwise, how would they know what it was worth?

a 2k list is pretty small and another consideration is the focus of the list. If the list is say, primarily people who signed up on a 'free business coach newsletter' how well is that going to translate to your product/service.

I am always wary of these business coaches!! If they knew what they were doing, why in the world would they try to make money by teaching people on how to make money instead of running them successfull businesses!!!

Just my 2 cents.

heres my

I've done web sites for 3 different business coaches so far, and here is what I've found:

they are extremely meticulous, organized and want to know and understand the how/why of everything. Those traits alone are very good business traits and if they are passing along even half of that information, that's a good thing. Now I'm not saying that every coach out there is like this...some may just be in it for the money, but honestly, there are people out there who truly need direction, and are willing to pay for it. Go coaches!
