Selling your own advertising, rather than running the Google Gauntlet, is a buiness model with a lot to recommend it. Particularly if you use one of the scripts available - <Affiliate Link Removed by Admin> for instance - to cut out all perceptions of fraud.
The popular PPC ads, banners etc are wide open to exploitation - you see 'click-fraud' articles everywhere lately - but webmasters still build thousands of sites carrying the ads. Why? Because they get big payouts. Advertisers still keep paying for those clicks. Why? Because they get profitable returns.
And do Google and Yahoo run the services at a loss? Hardly. Why not take a tiny sliver of their pie by offering a service that performs better simply because it chops the fraud, and doesn't need the daily maintenance Adwords/Overture require. i.e. fixed price, with no bumping.
This model gives you a business that grows under its own steam.
