Text Link Ads bad for sellers?
I want to sell links on my site. I was about to sign up for Text Link Ads, but then I noticed they take 50% of the sale price. Isnt that a pretty big chunk? Is it worth it since they have a huge market? Is there a better way to sell links on your site?

50%! Wow! That's a lot higher than I was expecting their payout to be. The broker business seems to be where it's at these days.

Have you tried adbrite?
Seems they charge more less, and now Bidvertiser seems to be offering the same deal.

Instead of using these programes I would advice you to look for buyers yourself in forums like DP and etc.

I'm sure that since Text-Link-Ads is doing well we'll start to see some newer, cheaper competition pop up in this space.

TLA is doing very well. I think they may have even merged or sold recently too.

Now that is some good advice. If a broker is taking 50% then it should be easy to go directly to the source and get a better deal for both the buyer and the seller. It may be less convenient to begin with but a little organization can go a long way.

I've been using them for almost a year and it's been amazing. I've made close to $10,000 from them in the year and it's worth every penny to invest in your site to market there.
I've never bought any links there personally, but I sure have sold a lot. I pull in a solid $600-800 monthly on average just from textlinks and referrals.
TLA is advertising A LOT and I mean TONS, so they have a much larger market than DP does. I do sales on other forums, but the majority of my sales are strictly on TLA now. 50% may be a bit much, but in the end, would you have had that cash otherwise if you hadn't gone ahead with TLA?
Just a few things for you to think about.

Yes like Vista said - Post your links for sale in the private forums here.
http://www.v7n.com/forums/links-buy-sell-exchange/
Target webmasters and promote your website to people who you think might be interested in purchasing text links.
What kind of a website do you have space available on ?

Although TLA takes 50% commission, they really have a wide reach into niches that you would never even think of. Most advertisers wouldn't even be on this forum. Also, most folks on the forums are looking for a deal, and wouldn't pay the prices that TLA charges for some of their ads.
And unless you have the time to really market yourself, consider the 50%... money you would have spent trying to reach advertisers. That's what you're really paying for.
They've consistently sold my inventory every month since I've started, and have a great support team.

I'm also happy with TLA, frankly to the point that I'm tired of saying it. Granted their plan does not match everyones business plan, it does work.

You can also sell text link ads through my website (see username) or post in webmaster forums. The revenue can be 100% yours.

Too much depends on your outlook and revenue needs. Consider that with TLA you might be getting more quality hits from people who are willing to pay a much higher premium. So lets say that you sell your text link on DP or another site and do so for $100 for a month. Now lets say you are able to sell the same ad space on TLA and make $150. Yes if you could have sold that link yourself your ad would have paid you $300, but would you have found that advertiser. In addition this advertiser may be willing to sponsor that link for 12 months and you may fill up 10 such links making you $1500 per month income. If you were to sell them by other means you might or might not sell them all or for such a long period of time. There are many factors to consider. In addition you would be free to work on traffic building to bring in more visitors and allow for other means of monetizing your site to grow beyond text links.
I went to look at their program and I am going to begin using it along with one of the more valuable things they offer for free to Word Press publishers and that is the Feedvertiser plug-in. That is just an awesome idea and great way to keep my feeds monetized. I can place my own ads, text links or let them sell spots to their customers giving me potentially up to 16 text link spots available for them to sell.
Either way you do this though you can make money. Myself I prefer to work on my traffic and other means of monetizing so that I have a good balance. I have joined their network so that they can manage my sites text links and will move more of my sites to them in the near future after I test them out on this first one.

Not to mention, on sites such as DP when you attempt to make link sales. Your thread can be buried 2 pages deep in a matter of hours, even with decent interest.

Exactly. I have been an active user on the DP forums under another name there for almost 2 years. Not as much over the past few months, but still when you attempt to sell links they do expect deep discounts and the amount you make is not as much since your links are slower selling even when going to multiple sites to promote the link positions.
I will take full ad spots any day over 50% of my link positions being empty and with not advertisers in site for a while.

So if adbrite buys a banner space or place on your website, are you allowed other ads or you have to take everything else off?
SPEEDY
enjoy
