PayPal On Your Site?
I don't think this is in the right section, move it if you wish.
When customers pay me, most of the time, it will be through paypal. I have a paypal account, how can I make a link from my site to the paypal donate thing. I don't want it to say "Donate" when they pay me. Anyone know?

Why do you want the Donate button in particular? Why not use the Buy Now button which can be highly customized?

I just checked the PayPal Donate button again. The button they supply you is simply a ".gif". You could easily create your own ".gif" and substitute it for theirs.

I've never offered paypal. Is it a good alternative or addition to credit card sales? Why?

This is just my personal opinion based on our own results. Due to the increased popularity of eBay, we have found many more clients preferring to pay for products and services with their PayPal accounts.
We shop online frequently ourselves and almost always prefer PayPal as our payment method of choice.

i used a different button at one time on a site, it is no big deal to replace it. once there just simply put it on yoru site as normal. here is the only site at the moment with paypal on it that i have, http://www.user-news.com/support.php , you can just do a view source and look at it if you want.
i personaly like the paypal system. gets everything set up and going, true you lose a few bucks on each transaction, but most people today want to pay with credit card and you would lose that much in processing fees anyway

On a side note, has anyone here downloaded the Paypal IPN tools and messed around with them?

I've come across some email phishing scams recently where emails pretending to come from paypal have logos which when click, ask for our login info.
I think most people know about this and would not fall for it but the thought/question i can't figure out is...
How is this done?
More importantly, when i visit a website and it has pay via paypal images, can they also be scams?
Basically, what i'm thinking is if an image in an email can lead me to a scam site that pretends to be paypal, would clicking on such images on a webpage expose me to the same danger?
This would seem very important both as a user and a merchant as many sites use such images...
incidentally, i recently came across a service i very much wanted to buy but didn't dare to as it only offered paypal payment via such an image on the site...
would appreciate any advise to allay my fears...

How can you imagine that a merchant would put a paypal logo on his site to cheat you? The merchant wants to get paid.
In any case if you go to the paypal site they have an advisory message about all the email scams. Their major advise is that if you click on any logo that doesn't take you to a secure site. -- the http reads httpS -- I put in the capital letter, it means it is an unsecure server and cannot be paypal.
Here is what they say on their site:
Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Emails
At PayPal, protecting your account's security is our top priority. Recently, PayPal members have reported suspicious-looking emails and fake websites. These emails are not from PayPal and responding to them may put your account at risk. Please protect your PayPal account by paying close attention to the emails you receive and the websites you visit.
Please use the following tips to stay safe with PayPal:
* Safe Log In: To log in to your PayPal account or access the PayPal website, open a new web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Netscape) and type in the following: https://www.paypal.com/
* Greeting: Emails from PayPal will address you by your first and last name or the business name associated with your PayPal account. Fraudulent emails often include the salutation "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member".
* Email Attachments: PayPal emails will never ask you to download an attachment or a software program. Attachments contained in fraudulent emails often contain viruses that may harm your computer or compromise your PayPal account.
* Request for Personal Information: If we require information from you, we will notify you in an email and request that you enter the information only after you have safely and securely logged in to your PayPal account.
Often, fraudulent emails will request details such as your full name, account password, credit card number, bank account, PIN number, Social Security Number, or mother's maiden name.
If you think that you have received a fraudulent email (or fake website), please forward the email (or URL address) to spoof@paypal.com and then delete the email from your mailbox. Never click any links or attachments in a suspicious email.
To learn more about protecting your PayPal account, please review our Security Tips.

I'm bringing this thread back up because im alittle confused and am looking for some help. I've got a form with a couple things like Name, Email, Payment Amount, and Comments. When the user clicks submit, im hoping to get the form to redirect to a Paypal pay page (try saying that 3 times fast!), while the amount gets forwarded to the pay page, and the other variables (such as email), get emailed to me. At the end of the transaction, the user would get forwarded back to my site. I've seen this done-although I can't figure it out.
Thanks!

It's the easiest way to offer secure credit card transactions online. It's also the cheapest if you are not doing a large volume of transactions. (Because of the startup costs of doing it yourself)
