Sorry to hear this Atom. The memories of parents tend to be the real treasure and riches anyways it is not what you get.

To my experience people that make good quality posts tend to get some click through on their sig links, especially if the sites linked to is related to the forum. It also has to do with forum ethics. As far as rep is concerned it is often the case that members that has been at a forum a while would reserve giving positive rep to someone until they feel that a person do deserve it. In some cases you get people that are good with words and knowledgeable that build up rep very quickly. Post whores does not equal knowledge by default.

Earning money through sig links and rep? Mmmmmmmm Not that simple but if you discuss the chain reactions that follow it can make you money if you are making friends as it often results into linking partnerships and it makes it easier to clarify some "stupid" questions you are to proud to ask on the forum but on chat with your buddy

Yeah true.

You know, I never really understood the fact that the best things in life are free, in my younger days. I mean, it made sense and everything but .. I never really understood it like I do now.

Do not feel bad many of us dont realize that either. I consider myself rich as long as I have my wife, kids and the rest of my family.

Yeah .. that makes sense.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say, just for the record, that I have never given anyone rep, I simply decided when the rep system came to the forum that I would not participate. I do, however, read my comments page occasionally. Thank you. : )

Do you at least rep yourself now and then?

I saw someone once posting a message in order to sell something and as he got a good rep, people bought from him. That would never have been the case from a no rep member.

I love giving rep to me it is rewarding someone in a small way but still rewarding them. But I also understand your point of view (Not that you have given it, but plz allow me to guess) It causes people post whore in order to obtain more voting power. It causes people to kiss butt by repping for others? It doesn't really matter, it is your point of view and that is it. I feel however it does give recognition to people that deserve it and at the end of the day it does raise certain standards on quality for those it is important to. Unfortunately it can also cause an abnormality of the size of the head,... sigh

These people would soon cause new T&C on forums. A person that sells Avatar or Sig for money is stealing money from the forum owner. The forum is put up by this person. Bandwidth and hosting paid by them. Advertising space belongs to him. In return for your active discussions you have the right to a signature link. Most forums I know do not allow affiliate links in sigs, I feel this includes advertising in avatars. I will not rep a person that sells their avatars or sigs for money, if I am aware of it!

I've never paid much attention to actual rep systems on forums, but there are names that I recognize and that carry a certain level of reputation with them. There are plenty of people that use the same screen name across different forums that I go to.

I use the same two names on all forums myself. I have been away from posting for a while since I got sick pretty bad last year, but it helps when you are known and people trust you.

Me either but if you see someone selling one thing, you may wish to take a look at his rep and also the comments which has been posted about him. This way you can make up your mind about taking out the money from your pocket...
