If amazon was a flash site, with a complete flash interface, would you liketo use it? Or ebay?

I think after it's totally integrated and well accepted, it will soon after become a thing of the past,,, but only because it will be replaced by an even higher level of interaction .. of which would seem even more absurd to a lot of today's webmasters.

it depends what the product is your trying to sell. I'm currently doing some work for a gifts / furniture company and am considering using small amounts of flash for each of the main category pages

I do quite a bit of flash work, and flash and ecommerce dont usually work together. (unless you are selling flash or something realted to it.)

One exception to the rule in ecommerce is ordering forms.

Reasons:
-Flash can do a lot of the form validition on the clientside,
-Can send and receive data from serverside scripts without refreshing the page so if the user mis enters something they dont need to keep pressing the back button. The experience is more userfriendly, and seamless.
-Ordering forms dont need to be indexed by search engines so you dont have to worry about SEO.
- 'Forms' dont have to look like forms, and can be more interactive.
- Easy to provide a html alternative as the same/verysimilar backend scripting can usually be used for both html and flash.
- Some customers are impressed by flash (provided its done well) and it can make you seem more professional thereby increasing the level of trust.
