It really depends on what your site is but most people try selling some PPC adertising space to begin with.
If your site is nothing risque (warez, porn, violence, weapons, drugs etc.) then AdSense would probably be the first thing to try. Be sure to read the AdSense TOS before proceeding.

If most of your registered users are active then you should have a strong traffic to your website so that you can try to monetize it (AdSense, YPN, text-ads-links, AdBrite, etc).

Monetize with Adsense is not a bad idea. But earning
commissions as an affiliate is even better.

You say you have registered users, so I presume that
you have them on your email list. Using the list to
promote product or services as an affiliate is one of the
best ways to earn a nice income.

Try to figure out what those people's needs are and
give it to them. I mean : if they have problems in
common then you could offer them a solution to the
problems by offering products that do just that.

Write product reviews and send them to the website
to read it and use your affiliate link to send them to
the merchant salespage. Give them a reason why they
need it. Give value to your visitors, but in a way that
you can earn from it. The best way to build a business
is based upon offering help and solutions. It gives you
a good feeling and you can make a nice living from it.

Cheers,

Rudy Dhondt

You should also try considering a PayPerClick campaign especailly if majority of your traffic is targetted. PPC is a very effective way to earn given the proper treatment. Selling links is also an option (best if your site has high PR). Banner ads and site sponsorships as well
