Going self employed queery

Hello out there...I am currently a greenkeeper and am employed. From the 21st of this month, I am going to be starting to do some part-time hours as a Driving Instructor around the job I am currently doing. I will be doing 14 hours at most a week to start with, just to cover my costs until I have enough experience and pupils to go hand my notice in with my current employer.
Do I need to register for self-employment before I start, & if so how do I go about this. Any other relevant advice would be most welcome. Thank you, Roger.

It depends on where you live. If you live in the US (I never heard of Eastbourne), you can run your business as a sole proprietor, limited liability company, or corporation. If you run a sole proprietorship, some states require you to register your "ficticious name" at the local courthouse or with the state. If you setup your new enterprise as a limited liability company or corporation, you will need to register with a state government. I think you can choose any state to register in even if you do not have a presence in that state; however, if you have a presence in any state where you do not have a presence in, you will have to register with those states as a foreign corporation. For advice about whether to choose a sole proprietorship, limited liability company, or corporation, consult with both an attorney AND an experienced accountant.

Another good forum that is all about small businesses is the Small Business Forum. Lots of small business owners there, and very knowledgable.
