If you want to build a long term brand recognition then it is of course very important.

However there are other business models, particularly on the Internet where nobody know your name or really cares.

So the answer I think is "it depends".

Branding a business

Any company needs an ID and a lot of organisations will stumble into one without really knowing it.

ID is part of branding. You will see parts of branding on your site:

> your proposition
> your personality (how you communicate - professional, wacky etc)

Websites are generally a chosen colour theme - why was that chosen?

Blue suggests trust, red is for selling and it transforms onto the web.

It's very important - do most folks think about it before starting a business? Nope !

You develop a brand and when your brand is recognized, you get customers trust and repeat business.

A lot of things fall under your brand - your logo, your products and services, your service to consumers. Promoting your brand is great by purchasing sponsorships at events.

Brand is everything. Without a brand your business is nothing.

It's a known fact that your brand is the most valuable intangible asset of your company. You could be selling anything from from shoelaces to speedboats, the idea is that when someone wants shoelaces, they'll think <yourcompany inc.>

Of course, there are things like internal alignment, brand valuation and strategy that will directly create your CI.

Depends on your objective. If you want to flip a company, branding the company name might not make sense.

What is an indentity, in terms of business and marketing world?

A generic explanation would be something that is making the consumer feels and notice you and feel that you are somehow, better than your competitors.

They should visualize you not by what you are selling, but by your name, your logo.

I think CI is the soul of the company. When someone thinks of your company, they arrive at what you are selling, but it should be other way round. When someone is thinking of a product, their thoughts should link thier minds to your company.

Just like when we think of computers, we start thinking about Apple, Dell, etc..
Then these companies don`t need google to send traffic, people arrive there directly.
