In order to start on this venture, there are four main decisions you need to know.

What To Sell?
The first thing you need to do is to decide on whether to invent a product or service. You need to figure out if there is even a market for developing a product to sell online, if you make the decision on it. In order to sell the product successfully, you must make sure that you believe in the quality of it and have a passion for it. If not, it will be hard to sell something even you would not buy.

It will be the same for setting up a service from home. For example, if you have decided to teach a subject online, you need to make sure that you know what you are talking about, make it clear and make sure that your readers understand what you are writing about. Believe in yourself as a teacher as such an attitude will get readers to listen and learn.

Who Is Your Target Audience?
The next step is to decide who your target audience is. If it is an expansive category like adults, you need to find out where they usually hang out online.

After that, you can focus your marketing campaign in that area. Typically, it will be a smaller and more select audience. Once more, you just need to do research on the websites which frequently visit. This would make certain that your marketing efforts are not going to go unnoticed. It would apparently be a waste of time to market a preschool product such as a toy to a message board consisting of teenagers. Therefore, your marketing tactics need to be focus on your target audience and nothing else.

Develop A Business Plan
Develop a general business plan that will help you to plot a good route to take for your internet business is the third step in the process aiming to make money online on the internet. This generally involves a lot of research, a few unique marketing ideas, and of course, some writing.

Have A Budget
Lastly, the important step in your decision making process is the budget. It needs to be sensible, which again will involve research on existing online businesses. You need at least some money in order to market broadly online. You need to budget more than the average online business owner if you plan to pay a writer for content or web designer for an effective website.

In general, following these four important steps will help you get your online business off the ground and start making money. Persistence and patience will pay off and will lead you in making more money, as well as learning more as you go on.

I agree with this guy, I need more details; It's a good article, but nothing new; nothing I haven't heard before from other 'gurus' - I would agree that you Must believe in what you are selling; As we used to say in ACN - "You can't sell a Cadillac and Drive a Ford."

You've gotta believe in it, to sell it and sell it well; Another one of my mentors in business says, "Do what you love and the money will follow" - I think a person must Love the product - or Sell something they Love - then it won't get tiring; you won't be ready to quit or give up so soon, and you'll do it for fun, not for money.

But ... we all need money.

So that is where I"m coming in - Link and Banner Exchanges have worked well for me, driving lots of Targeted Audience Traffic to my sites - but, I'd like to go from making $300-$500 per month ... To making $3,000 - $5,000 per month.

How do I do that??

I'd like to live nicely from my website - I'd like to have enough money coming in that I can pay my bills and still have some left over to both invest (so it can grow) and party with (b/c what's life if you can't enjoy it...) So what am I missing? What else can I do to both find Target Audiences, and Find people who'll Spend money to see what we've got to offer....?

Nice article again; I don't want to take away from what you wrote; I just feel it needs more detail for the rest of us who know what you're talking about, but are wondering what else we need to do to make More money online.

Here are most of the headers from what I call my site plan. Some of those headers have a few pages of content under them. I make one for every site I start. They all end up different. Depending on the site, or how things are going, I sometimes spend more time on the site plan than the site. If you feel things are not going the way you thought they should it's time to re-evaluate. It's also good to update even when they are going to plan.
