Adwords question

Hello,
A question about adwords from someone who knows absolutely zero about it.

I have a website which is a vbulletin/vbseo forum, it is a local community website and is basicly just put up to stay relevant. It is an old domain that I let a city use for about 8 years but they apparently didn't like the fact that I originally owned the domain name for years previously to them coming along, and I was only letting them use it. So they got their own name. Not really a big deal, but I advised them prior to purchasing it myself that they should grab it, and they didn't.

The whole time their content was up it was basicly a static website of no real interest so it received about 100 visitors (on a good day). But since taking it over and adding a bunch of relevant content (city info etc...) the daily average after 2 months of me running it is about 300 unique visitors and a few thousand page views.

My question is, is it worth the time to try and put up some kind of ads like adwords on that amount of traffic. What amount of money would be expected on that. Keep in mind, I'm not even sure how adwords works.

What you are referring to is Adsense and yes it would be completely relevant and worthwhile, especially with such targeted local traffic. I've had a similar site setup and while not a huge earner, you would probably expect at least a few dollars a day.

Something else you could do would be contact local businesses, discuss your traffic, and setup a monthly subscription for their ads to run. Typically the big buyers are your heating and air companies, especially going into the summer.

Thanks for the info. I tried to sign on to Adsense and was refused for prior fraud. It surprised me because I have no clue what they're talking about. Oh well - I never tried to defraud them but won't be jumping through any hoops to convince them of that.

Did you have a previous account with them? Or was it possible that the domain you were signing up with had been used previously?

Not that I know of. I had to sign up new for adsense. Have already been signed up for adwords for years. Their loss.

One thing about Google is they will tell you something like this, but never show you how they had come to this conclusion. In fact I have heard of people having the same issue and Google simply leaves them wondering what they might have done wrong. Now I am sure some have committed fraud, but there are a few I am sure who never did anything wrong.
