Many Average Domains Or One Good One?

I have a travel forum and have been earning a few bucks with adsense. Would it be better to try and expand my current website or perhaps start another ten and ad adsense to them? It seems like I would have a better chance having 10 websites with adsense instead of just one. If I started the other ten websites could I put a link to each of my other sites or do the search engines look down on this? Thanks for your input.

If you're running Adsense, then the more the merrier.
Adsense isn't even going to get you money for beer & skittles unless you have dozens of pages, and they're ALL popular.

Considering you're running a travel forum, why aren't you running some sort of travel affiliate?
You could easily run both lead-generation AND sale based CPA offers on something like that.

That is a very good idea and I may add an affiliate to it as well. All the sites I would start would be travel related what do you think about me linking each of my sites to another good idea or bad?

I would expand the current site. Having a big travel site is great if you like to travel. I have gotten free cruises, 1/2 price hotel stays, etc. because of my popular travel blog. If I had 10 low traffic sites, I'd be getting jack. And I'd deserve it. But one site that attracts thousands of travel enthusiasts means it makes sense for hotels and cruises and whatever to want my reviews.

Linking sites together = OK if you don't get punished. But last time I read Google's 'SEO advice' they warned that networks they deem existing only to add link popularity or manipulate SERPs can get punished.

James Trotta,
Thanks for the input. It sounds like I could get in trouble by linking the sites and I don't really want to risk it. It sounds like you make some money from Adsense ads but you make a lot more in "perks" from hotels etc. I went to your blog and I really like the layout. I really wanted to put my all into my travel forum and will continue to do so.

You definitely need lots of pages. If you have a good domain that can be expanded, it's probably better to focus on building the pages and quality and promotion of that one domain.

Now, as part of that promotion, it might be useful to have other domains that link into the main one. I would do this in moderation. Specifically, no more than 20% of your links should be from domains that can be linked to you.

It sounds like one good domain is the consensus. I thought of doing many specific destination domains with maybe just a page or two of unique content with of course Google Adsense to support them.

I would only try that strategy if you were looking for text link ads to comprise the bulk of your income. It's much easier to sell 10 links for $10/month than 1 link for $100/month even if the cheap links come from relatively weak sites.

Having said that, adsense and forums don't often work well together.

You may think its better to have 10, but one good one would be far better.
